Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Teacher Assistant to join our Kumon Math and Reading center team. In this vital role, you will support classroom teachers in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs. Duties

• Assist classroom teachers with lesson planning, curriculum development, and implementing instructional activities aligned with individual education plans (IEPs) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
• Support students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral challenges, by providing behavioral management strategies and behavior support.
• Offer physical assistance to students with special needs during classroom activities, transitions, and daily routines to promote independence and safety.
• Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication skills to facilitate effective interaction with students who have communication difficulties.
• Support literacy education, basic math skills, and early childhood education initiatives tailored to preschool, toddler care, Montessori, or preschool settings.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, counselors, and other professionals to develop individualized support strategies for students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information while handling sensitive data related to IEPs and behavioral records.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with children or students with disabilities in classroom or childcare settings is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of special education practices including behavior management techniques for students with developmental disabilities or behavioral disorders.
• Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum or those requiring classroom support in special education environments.
• Familiarity with early childhood education principles such as childhood development theories, Montessori methods, or preschool curricula.
• Proficiency in communication skills—both written and verbal—to effectively document student progress and collaborate with team members.
• Ability to assist physically disabled students safely while promoting their independence within the classroom setting.
• Understanding of IEP processes, behavior management strategies, and the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
