ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES, AND OBJECTIVES
The Part-Time Head Coach Womens Flag Football is responsible for the leadership, direction, and day-to-day management of the intercollegiate womens flag football program. Responsibilities include practice planning, student-athlete development, recruiting, academic oversight, fundraising, competition management, and program administration. The Head Coach must demonstrate strong leadership, uphold the mission of the Athletics Department, and maintain strict adherence to NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional compliance and eligibility standards.
The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, a commitment to student-athlete success, and a comprehensive understanding of flag football strategy, skill development, and program building.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coaching & Player Development
- Plan and lead structured practices, conditioning sessions, film review, and game preparation.
- Provide technical instruction in offensive, defensive, and special teams concepts specific to womens flag football.
- Teach position-specific skills, game strategy, situational awareness, and leadership development.
- Promote sportsmanship, team culture, professionalism, wellness, and academic commitment.
- Develop seasonal and offseason training plans aligned with program goals and competitive success.
- Evaluate and assess student-athlete performance while creating individualized development plans.
Recruiting
- Create and implement a year-round recruiting strategy to build and maintain a competitive roster.
- Identify prospective student-athletes who demonstrate strong academic standing, character, and athletic ability.
- Develop relationships with high school coaches, club programs, flag football organizations, and families.
- Coordinate campus visits, recruiting communications, and prospect evaluations.
- Meet roster and retention goals established annually by the Director of Athletics.
Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional policies regarding recruiting, eligibility, practice, competition, and student-athlete conduct.
- Maintain accurate and timely submission of compliance documentation, including recruiting records, eligibility forms, CARA logs, and travel documentation.
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility, academic progress, amateurism, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in annual compliance education and ensure all team members understand applicable rules and regulations.
Academic Oversight
- Monitor academic progress and ensure student-athletes meet institutional and NCAA academic standards.
- Support academic success initiatives, including study hall, tutoring, and academic support recommendations when appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with academic support staff, advisors, and compliance personnel.
- Foster a culture that prioritizes graduation, academic achievement, and personal growth.
Program Administration & Team Management
- Oversee assistant and volunteer coaches.
- Establish team policies, expectations, standards of conduct, and accountability measures.
- Coordinate all competition and travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, meals, and scheduling.
- Assist with scheduling contests and maintaining operational calendars.
- Maintain budget awareness and ensure responsible use of program resources.
- Utilize departmental systems such as Teamworks and other athletics platforms for communication and operations.
Facilities & Equipment
- Coordinate practice and competition facility usage.
- Oversee inventory, distribution, maintenance, and replacement of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with game-day operations and ensure facilities are prepared for competitions and practices.
- Promote safe and effective training and competition environments.
Fundraising & Program Advancement
- Lead and participate in fundraising initiatives that support program needs and departmental goals.
- Collaborate with College Advancement to ensure all fundraising activities comply with institutional procedures.
- Engage alumni, community members, donors, and supporters to promote program growth and sustainability.
- Support annual athletic department fundraising expectations and initiatives.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Represent the College and Athletics Department with professionalism at competitions, recruiting functions, and community events.
- Promote the program through community outreach, social media, camps, clinics, and special events.
- Build positive relationships with local schools, youth organizations, and flag football associations.
- Support departmental engagement initiatives that enhance the student-athlete experience and community presence.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrated success in coaching, player development, and recruiting.
- Strong knowledge of flag football rules, strategies, and player development.
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division II compliance and eligibility requirements.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to mentor and support a diverse student-athlete population.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with program budgeting and fundraising preferred.
EDUCATION
- Bachelors degree preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two to three years of coaching experience in flag football, football, or a related sport, preferably at the collegiate or high school level.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining student-athletes.
- Experience with program administration, fundraising, and community engagement preferred.
- Playing experience in flag football or football is beneficial.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
