INTRODUCTION
We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to support the management, maintenance, security, performance, and reliability of enterprise database environments. This role will be responsible for SQL Server administration, database design, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, performance tuning, automation, ETL processes, and supporting Power BI data infrastructure.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring availability, performance, security, and reliability.
- Perform database backup, recovery, disaster recovery planning, testing, and maintenance activities.
- Design and support logical and physical database structures, including relational database models.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and database objects.
- Monitor and tune database performance, indexing strategies, queries, replication, and connectivity.
- Manage SQL Server Always On configurations, clustering, and replication environments.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot SQL Server database software and related technologies.
- Manage and support Azure database virtual machines and database infrastructure.
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate database administration and operational tasks.
- Configure and support Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh schedules.
- Design, develop, and maintain SSIS packages and ETL workflows for data integration and transformation.
- Support database migrations, production changes, object deployments, and migration testing.
- Implement version control and DevOps practices for database objects and deployments.
- Review existing database architecture and recommend improvements to performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Develop database administration tools, utilities, procedures, standards, and technical documentation.
- Implement and maintain database security guidelines and mechanisms.
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, and BI teams to support data-driven solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex database, application, hardware, and software issues.
- Assist with data archival, purge criteria, and historical data management.
- Cross-train with other database administrators and provide guidance to junior team members.
- Provide occasional on-call and off-hours support for critical database issues and maintenance activities.
- Participate in occasional in-state travel as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of experience in database administration, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Experience with SQL Server backup and recovery and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience managing Azure database virtual machines.
- Strong knowledge of Transact-SQL (T-SQL) and stored procedure development.
- Experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and replication.
- Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and/or clustering.
- Hands-on experience configuring and supporting Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh schedules.
- Experience implementing version control and DevOps practices for database objects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing and writing stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
- Experience developing and optimizing complex SQL queries and stored procedures for reporting and analytics.
