Job Title: Maintenance Specialist

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for general and preventative maintenance of equipment and tools. The position will assist with major projects and general facility repairs. Completes work orders and maintains records of all jobs performed; and order inventory and deliver equipment and supplies to district sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty/functions satisfactorily. Job Tasks Descriptions
1. Perform preventative and routine maintenance of custodial equipment, repairs, and replacement of parts on equipment, testing and troubleshooting equipment. Maintenance of equipment; repair of miscellaneous custodial equipment, including but not limited to, auto scrubbers, vacuums, carpet shampooers, restroom machines, countertop appliances, etc. Perform similar equipment repairs and routine maintenance as requested by Nutrition Services.
2. Support the custodial department in maintenance, delivery, inventory, ordering, and ensuring that custodial needs are met in all facilities.
3. Inspect tools and equipment for maintenance needs and repairs, clean and service equipment. Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
4. Fill out, submit, and track work orders that need to be placed to other departments. Place work orders to the proper department if outside contractors are necessary for repairs. Monitor the work order system to ensure items are fixed as needed. Maintain records retention following local, state, and federal guidelines.
5. Assist district maintenance personnel with major projects or repairs while adhering to safety and regulatory compliance. Some projects may include but are not limited to inspecting roofs for damage and minor repair of roofing systems, such as flashing, hole repair, etc., that are creating water leaks in the building. Inspect, clean, and service roof drains and gutters to prevent roof leaks; inspect roof curbs and parapets to ensure they do not leak.
6. Order parts and tools to maintain inventory.
7. Respond to emergency requests and provide assistance to ensure the safety of students, staff, and property from harm or further damage.
8. Ensure buildings and equipment are in compliance with OSHA/safety standards and ADA accessibility regulations. Comply with district safety protocols, such as biweekly safety meetings, annual training, etc. and ensure conservation guidelines are followed.
9. Provide a wide variety of mechanical and maintenance skills (e.g. equipment repair and rebuild, carpentry, glass repair, roofing repair, etc.) to maintain school buildings.
10. Utilize computers to document progress and complete work orders, complete yearly safety course requirements, check emails and other personal records. Communicate with other employees/supervisor regarding procedures and/or status of work orders providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action, and/or complying with health and safety regulations.
11. Repair various items, systems, and/or components (e.g. furniture, cabinets, countertops, suspended ceilings, lunchroom tables, bathroom partitions etc.) to ensure that items are available and in safe working condition. Utilize a variety of power tools and shop equipment to construct or repair items.
12. Transport equipment and materials to ensure the availability at job sites.
13. Performs other duties as assigned. This might include occasional evening and weekend duty in response to emergency situations.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- 1-3 years’ experience in the maintenance repair field.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
- Criminal background check required for hire.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Must obtain and maintain Defensive Driving certificate by the conclusion of the district-provided training course.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge or ability to learn maintenance and repair of all custodial equipment, kitchen equipment and shop equipment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to follow all safety guidelines.
- Able to perform all duties and adjust based on job conditions.
- Ability to upgrade skills, as needed.
- Ability to perform basic math including calculations.
- Ability to work with handheld or power tools.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical information.
- Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance expectations and to follow district procedures for absence reporting.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building and department procedures.
- Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate/required safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Operating knowledge of and experience with office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, etc.
- Operating knowledge of district information technology systems and department-specific software and equipment required within 3 months after entering position.
- Operating knowledge of all powered equipment used to perform job functions.
