Summary:
The Financial Aid Advisor shall have responsibility for meeting with prospective students, creating a positive and friendly environment, facilitating participation in the Financial Aid eligibility process, assisting in determining eligibility for Financial Aid, for Financial Aid record-keeping (hard copy and electronic), and assisting in default prevention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Informally meets with prospective students on initial visit to:
- Ensure all prospective students are given all the necessary resources available to pay for tuition.
- Give guidance to prospective students on completing their FAFSA,
- Interviews prospective students and assist them in securing and/or completing the proper paperwork requirements
- Package students financial aid in Anthology.
- Communicates with other departments on prospective students pending documents for follow up.
- Generates reports to identify starts for the month and ensure starts are fully packaged.
- Follows up with pending students to ensure file completion.
- Completes new starts files and submits them to immediate supervisor for review, originations and disbursements.
- Meets one-on-one to counsel loan borrowers within one week of first disbursement
- Manages Default management activities weekly
- Coordinates assigned student financial aid programs
- Monitors standards of quality control for financial aid programs
- Communicates with Federal and State agencies, as well as current and potential students regarding financial aid related issues
- Identifies program issues and works with management to resolve them
- Attends meetings, seminars and or/conferences and performs frequent liaison activity with external agencies
- The Financial Aid Advisor is required to adhere to all applicable State, Federal and accrediting agency regulations
- The Financial Aid Advisor is required to adhere to all company policies and reports directly to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
- Counsels financial aid students and makes decisions regarding awards
- Interprets and implements regulations set forth by Federal and State agencies
- Serves as liaison between the Office of Student Financial Aid and Federal and State agencies
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Three years of work experience in a closely related field to the duties being performed. Work experience in Financial Aid preferred
- Proficiency in MS Microsoft Office products and ability to learn other software programs
- Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills as well as excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented
- Ability to multi-task, demonstrate computational ability, respond effectively in a variety of situations, and work effectively in team situations
- Dependable; possess excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills; detail oriented and take pride in quality of work
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Strong sense of ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality of private personal and business information
Essential Skills and Experience
- Ability to work comfortably with people.
- Self-starter.
- Able to work on their own with little director.
