Overview
Design judgment is the primary craft on this team: defining the right problem, exploring genuinely different directions, and knowing which one actually serves the customer. What sets this role apart is build fluency on top of that judgment, taking the strongest direction to a working, production-quality prototype yourself instead of handing off a static spec. Seniority on this team shows up as leading a domain, a product surface, an emerging AI experience, a growth surface, as a natural extension of doing the work well, not through a separate title or ladder.
You will
- Develop frameworks that simplify ambiguous problem spaces, and generate novel product directions grounded in genuine exploration of alternatives before converging.
- Build and ship functional prototypes at production quality, testing real interactions with real data rather than presenting static screens.
- Take features from requirements to shipped experience using AI development tools, contributing directly to front-end implementation where it improves the customer experience.
- Recognize gaps in the design system and initiate new patterns: build and document components that integrate with the system's architecture rather than working around it.
- Read and respond to CI/CD checks, visual regression, accessibility, token audits, before work reaches customers.
- Judge when AI-generated or AI-assisted work carries the intended design and when it needs refinement, closing that loop yourself instead of routing it through a separate review.
- Instrument what you ship so real usage feeds back into the next round of design, not just what shipped but how it performed.
- Help the cross-functional team make roadmap trade-offs, balancing speed and quality using AI to compress the build-test-learn loop without lowering the evidence bar.
- Shape how AI-powered features in your domain calibrate user trust: when to surface confidence, when to require confirmation, when to show alternatives.
- Mentor peers and elevate the craft bar for the team, not just your own work.
- Establish and raise the quality standards the team builds against.
- Align with the other teams and functions your work touches, product, engineering, brand, so what ships holds together beyond your own domain.
You have
- Strong design fundamentals: you defend a direction with evidence, not instinct, and you explore meaningfully different approaches before you converge on one.
- Comfort designing from ambiguity, a problem before it has a spec, a system before it has documentation.
- Fluency building with AI development tools (Claude Code or equivalent) to take a concept to a working, production-quality prototype.
- Front-end implementation fluency, including the judgment to tell when AI-generated code preserves your design intent and when it degrades it, and the ability to wire components to real data and APIs rather than static mocks.
- Git and GitHub workflow: branches, pull requests, and code review as a normal part of how you ship.
- Prompt and context scaffolding to keep AI output consistent and minimize drift across a project.
- A track record of closing gaps in a design system, not just applying what already exists.
- Clear communication and the ability to influence people who don't report to you.
- A strategic mindset: you connect the decision in front of you to where the product and the team are headed, not just what's due this sprint.
The salary range for this role is ($140,500-$249,200). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs.
