Position Summary
The Middle School Volleyball Assistant Coach supports the Middle School Head Coach in developing student-athletes within the volleyball program. This role focuses on teaching fundamentals, encouraging growth, reinforcing team expectations, and helping create a positive, Christ-centered environment for middle school athletes. The assistant coach plays an important role in helping athletes build confidence, develop proper habits, and grow in their understanding of the game while reflecting the mission and values of Liberty Christian Academy.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support and Alignment
- Support and implement the vision, expectations, and practice structure established by the Middle School Head Coach and volleyball program leadership.
- Help reinforce consistent terminology, fundamentals, team expectations, and program culture.
- Assist in creating a positive, teamfirst environment that encourages growth, effort, and accountability.
- Support longterm athlete development and help prepare students for future participation in the high school volleyball program.
Coaching and Instruction
- Assist with structured, developmentfocused practices that emphasize fundamentals, effort, teamwork, and game understanding.
- Teach volleyball skills, rotations, offensive and defensive concepts, sportsmanship, and competitive habits appropriate for the middle school level.
- Support the Middle School Head Coach during practices, matches, and team activities.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to help athletes improve individually and as a team.
- Help athletes develop confidence, discipline, coachability, communication, and a stronger understanding of the game.
Player Development and Evaluation
- Assist in evaluating athlete progress and identifying areas for improvement.
- Encourage growth in skill development, volleyball IQ, effort, toughness, teamwork, and leadership.
- Reinforce accountability, sportsmanship, commitment, and positive team behavior.
- Help create an environment where athletes feel challenged, supported, and encouraged.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Middle School Head Coach and Athletic Department as needed regarding scheduling, communication, equipment, uniforms, and team logistics.
- Help ensure compliance with OHSAA regulations and school policies.
- Communicate professionally and appropriately with parents when directed by the Middle School Head Coach or Athletic Department.
- Assist with supervision of athletes before, during, and after practices and matches.
Spiritual and Character Development
- Support the school’s Christian mission through coaching, communication, and leadership.
- Model Christcentered behavior and encourage spiritual and personal growth among studentathletes.
- Use volleyball as a platform to develop character, humility, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and servant leadership.
Qualifications
- Coaching or playing experience in volleyball, preferably at the middle school, youth, high school, club, or competitive youth level.
- Strong teaching mindset with a focus on athlete development and encouragement.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively under the leadership of the Middle School Head Coach and Athletic Department.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Liberty Christian Academy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience at the youth, middle school, high school, or club level.
- Current Pupil Activity Permit or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience working with middle school athletes in a developmental sports environment.
