Emergency Medical Technician – Part-Time
Position Summary
The primary mission of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to respond to both emergent and non-emergent requests for service while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and exceptional customer service within the appropriate scope of practice.
EMTs are responsible for providing safe patient care, maintaining professional conduct, completing accurate clinical documentation, and representing LIFEwest Ambulance with professionalism and integrity. The EMT must be able to function effectively in dynamic and high-stress environments while maintaining composure, sound clinical judgment, and strong communication.
$19.64/hr - $20.83/hr (DOE), 12-hr Shifts
Location
We operate across six locations: Cotati, Novato, Oakland, Napa, Fairfield, and Sonoma Raceway. Specific location assignments are based on operational needs and will be finalized upon hire.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Emergency Medical Technicians may be assigned one or more duties, including but not limited to the following:
Patient Care & Operations
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service in accordance with company policies, medical protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide high-quality patient care within the EMT scope of practice and under the direction of medical control.
- Safely assess, treat, monitor, and transport patients.
- Operate ambulance equipment and vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
- Ensure readiness of medical equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete thorough, accurate, and timely patient care documentation for each patient contact and transport.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain current certifications, licensure, and required documentation.
Professionalism & Teamwork
- Serve as a positive representative of LIFEwest Ambulance through professional conduct, appearance, and communication.
- Act as a mentor and role model to peers when appropriate.
- Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with patients, families, healthcare staff, and the public.
- Collaborate effectively with field partners, dispatch personnel, and healthcare professionals.
Quality Improvement
- Identify trends or opportunities for improvement and communicate ideas to leadership.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Commit to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain operational readiness of assigned equipment and vehicles.
- Follow all safety policies and infection control procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Education, Certifications, Licensure & Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Current and valid California State EMT certification (through county/LEMSA)
- Valid CPR/BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association
- Current and valid California Driver’s License
- Ambulance Driver Certificate
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DL51)
- Current H-6 DMV driving record (5-year history, issued within 30 days of application) with a driving history compliant with company driving policy
- Ability to maintain all required certifications and licenses throughout employment

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a mentor or peer resource to other employees within the department.

Work Environment
EMTs may be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous environments. The role may include exposure to traumatic incidents, including severely injured, psychiatric, or deceased patients.
Work is performed in a variety of environments including ambulances, healthcare facilities, private residences, and public locations.

Physical requirements include:
- Drive an Ambulance vehicle in rain, fog, day and nights
- Lift 150lbs
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting and climbing steps
- Assisting with lifting, moving, and transporting patients
- Ability to operate medical and communication equipment
- Vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Travel
Travel is primarily local within the service area during scheduled shifts. Employees may be required to work at multiple operational locations and are responsible for providing their own transportation to assigned shifts or facilities.
