The Paralegal plays a critical role in supporting attorneys throughout the lifecycle of a personal injury case — from initial client intake through settlement or trial. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining exceptional client communication.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management
Maintain and organize case files in SmartAdvocate
Track deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules
Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence
Coordinate service of process and court filings
Prepare exhibits and case materials for hearings, depositions, and trial
Pre-Litigation Support
Obtain and review medical records and bills
Draft demand packages and settlement summaries
Communicate with insurance adjusters
Track lien resolution and subrogation matters
Litigation Support
Assist with drafting discovery requests and responses
Coordinate depositions and court reporter scheduling
Summarize medical records and deposition transcripts
Prepare trial binders and exhibits
Support attorneys during trial preparation
Client Communication
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients
Provide case status updates
Maintain professional and empathetic communication
Qualifications
Required:
3–5 years of Personal Injury paralegal experience
Experience supporting both pre-litigation and litigation matters
Strong knowledge of Illinois civil procedure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with legal case management systems (SmartAdvocate preferred)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
Paralegal Certificate (CP preferred)
Experience in a plaintiff-side law firm
Trial preparation experience
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary range: $55,000 – $65,000 annually (based on experience)
