We’re excited about our new Kansas City facility, and we are looking for a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor/1st Shift Supervisor who will primarily oversee workflow, productivity, and daily operations in the shipping and receiving departments. This role also supports other warehouse functions as needed and may assume facility-wide leadership or special projects in the general manager's absence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintaining a safe environment for all employees and ensuring everyone is working safely
- Addressing safety concerns in a timely and effective manner
- Directing employees to complete work within the production schedule and without compromising quality
- Staging work to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective processing of orders
- Identifying ways to improve work methods and implementing those changes
- Ensuring work areas are well-organized, tools and fixtures are working properly, and areas are free of safety hazards
- Coaching and providing employees with regular feedback and completing quarterly evaluations on a timely basis
- Training and cross-training both new and existing employees
- Understanding and applying company policies consistently
- Performing quality assurance checks throughout the department
- Other duties and project work as assigned
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Contributes to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work, as needed or requested.
- Decision-making and authority is exercised with good judgment, recognizing when others must be involved.
- Shows initiative in gaining and maintaining the skills, abilities, and knowledge required to perform this position in at least a fully qualified and satisfactory manner.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Two + years' experience in Shipping/Receiving required. Experience in manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Two + years of demonstrated supervisory, leadership, training, and coaching experience, required.
- Experience with MRP systems
- Ability to multitask and manage shifting priorities with frequent interruptions
- Successful completion of a Powered Industrial Truck driving test and the material handler written exam
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete floors
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, climb, and twist as needed to perform receiving and material-handling tasks
- Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs regularly
- Must be able to operate powered industrial trucks (PIT), including mounting/dismounting repeatedly
- Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment with variable temperatures, noise levels, and frequent movement of material-handling equipment
- Must be able to visually inspect incoming materials and read paperwork, labels, and screens on inventory systems
