This position investigates crimes, interviews victims and witnesses, collects and preserves evidence, arrests crime suspects, and conducts surveillance operations. Major criminal investigations that could exceed agency resources are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Chief of Police and are coordinated by the Lieutenant.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Conduct preliminary investigations as well as follow-up investigations; interview witnesses, victims, and suspects; provide feedback to the appropriate people concerning case status; collect and documents evidence.
- Execute arrest and search warrants, as well as the completion of required paperwork, reports, and return of service documents.
- Ability to effectively plan, organize, and execute investigations independently or with limited guidance from the Lieutenant and/or the Chief of Police.
- Possess an ability to work calmly under conditions of high stress, physical, and emotional circumstances.
- Performs other duties that are related to investigations or law enforcement duties requested by the Chief of Police.

The following may be required:
- Ability to successfully complete CPR/First Aid/AED courses offered by the Department.
- Be physically and mentally capable to render aid in the event of an emergency.
- Possess the visual ability to operate a patrol vehicle and distinguish detail and differences when observing people, places, and things while on patrol.
- Physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing kneeling, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Meet the terminal operator certification/recertification requirements
- Meet the requirements to obtain a Louisiana POST certification and meet all annual requalification requirements.
