Meadowview Behavioral Hospital is seeking a passionate, organized, and clinically grounded leader to serve as our Director of Expressive Therapy. This role provides leadership, coordination, and clinical oversight of therapeutic activity programming across patient populations, ensuring services align with individualized treatment plans, regulatory standards, and the hospital’s therapeutic mission.
The Director of Expressive Therapy partners closely with interdisciplinary teams to deliver meaningful, structured, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions that support patient engagement, skill-building, and recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee all Expressive Therapy programming across assigned patient populations, ensuring alignment with treatment plans and clinical goals.
- Provide clinical leadership in assessing patients’ psychosocial, leisure, and recreational needs and translating findings into therapeutic interventions.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate group and individual activity therapy interventions within the facility and, as appropriate, in approved off-unit settings.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of therapeutic services, including daily progress notes and treatment-related updates.
- Serve as a clinical resource to interdisciplinary treatment teams by providing feedback on patient participation, progress, and therapeutic response.
- Provide education, guidance, and in-service training to staff regarding activity therapy concepts, group dynamics, and therapeutic engagement.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, including oversight of activity spaces, supplies, and equipment.
- Apply appropriate crisis intervention techniques and support patients in achieving optimal levels of independent functioning.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives, staff development activities, and required meetings.
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, departmental procedures, and confidentiality standards.
- Support therapeutic programming across adolescent, adult, geriatric, and chemically dependent populations using age-appropriate and population-specific approaches.
Your Experience Matters What we’re looking for:
- Education & Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Expressive Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or a related behavioral health field required. Current clinical licensure or certification preferred, as applicable to discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or substance use treatment settings preferred. Minimum three (3) years’ experience facilitating therapeutic groups and working within interdisciplinary treatment teams.

Compensation:
This is a full-time position with an expected compensation range of $70,000 – $90,000 annually, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Join us as our Director of Expressive Therapy!
