MedZed Chief Operating Officer

About MedZed
MedZed is a leader in delivering value-based, technology-enabled social support to a diverse population of high-cost Medicaid members who have been unreachable with telephonic outreach, disconnected from primary care, and using hospital-based services as their primary point of care. We combine innovative technologies with field-based outreach to find and engage these members. We then apply a model of care designed to re-connect them to primary care, address the Health Related Social Needs (HRSNs) that contribute to their disengagement and present barriers to care, and provide them with the means and knowledge to take more control over their healthcare. Our interventions yield reduced Emergency Department and Inpatient utilization costs for our health plan partners and improved quality of life for their members. As we scale, we are seeking an accomplished Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Leadership Team to help realize our vision and contribute to long-term value creation.
Position Overview
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is the integrator and translator of our strategic vision into daily practice. The ideal candidate will blend operational curiosity, critical thinking, a relentless drive for metrics-driven, technology-enabled operational excellence and hands-on execution skills to bring together and align multiple stakeholders with varying perspectives, and goals into a cohesive operation that maximizes our impact on the organizations and communities we serve. The COO leads the business functions and is responsible for providing operational leadership, management and coordination across departments and identifies opportunities to enhance the access and care provided to members across programs, while optimizing growth, mitigating risk, ensuring compliance, and maximizing profitability. We are looking for a collaborative team player who is a passionate, curious and empathetic thought partner that relentlessly strives for continuous improvement. A person who is responsive, action and detail oriented, mission-driven and balances humanity and productivity while effectively instilling process throughout the operation.
As a member of the executive team, the COO will partner with the CEO and other leaders to build and maintain relationships internally and externally, while motivating a multi-disciplinary team with a common goal of delivering extraordinary care to our members. The COO serves as a role model and mentor to MedZed employees. Success will look like:

Key Responsibilities
- Build, scale and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability while setting and meeting company objectives.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the company and instill operational rigor throughout the organization.
- Partner with the CEO, Board, operating team and other executive peers to advance MedZed’s mission and maximize Total Enterprise Value.
- In partnership with CTO create and analyze financial and operating reports, forecast future performance, and make data-driven operational decisions that maximize top line growth and profitability while leading with the delivery of extraordinary member care.
- Partner closely with HR to ensure Operations has the right people, in the right place, at the right time to deliver on company goals while fostering a healthy culture that improves employee satisfaction. Continuously evaluate and develop talent across all operating teams to build a world class organization.
- Streamline operations, eliminate waste, and improve quality.
- Champion change management and drive innovation to improve efficiency through collaboration with the Growth, Technology, HR, Quality & Compliance, and Finance teams, by leveraging data & analytics to develop long-term strategies.
- Collaborate with Technology, People and Finance to develop KPIs that provide visibility to all levels of team (up and down) while inspiring actionable oversight.
- Communicate effectively both within the organization and externally to foster growth, collaboration, drive organizational change, and achieve strategic initiatives that deliver measurable impact.
- Partner with Growth team to identify ways to grow the customer base through program transformation, maximization of referral volumes and member growth while reducing ED visits and hospitalizations.
- Working with other members of senior leadership, instill product management discipline linking contracts, financial modeling, data management, operating software, internal metrics and external reporting.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of successful executive healthcare leadership experience, with at least 5 specifically in the managed care/value-based care industries serving Medicaid and dual eligible members.
- Multi-market oversight of remote careforce.
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related industry, business administration or finance (Master’s degree preferred).
- Possess a deep understanding of healthcare financial management, budgeting, and cost containment.
- Demonstrated success improving revenue and unit economics while driving profitability and maintaining high levels of employee engagement in fast growing organizations.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of healthcare operations with emphasis on growth, forecasting, managed care and value-based care models.
- Exceptionally strong executive leadership profile with ability to effectively articulate vision and drive outcomes with a focus on collaboration and transparency and the ability to lead, develop, motivate and direct others to maximize efficiency and effectiveness while juggling competing priorities.
- Passion for operational excellence and enhancing operational workflows via technology solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, mentor, and scale culturally diverse operating teams.
- Exceptional communication skills and executive presence, with the ability to influence C-level leaders, teams, and external partners.
- Passion for rolling up sleeves and getting stuff done.
- Strategic thinker with curious nature and relentless drive that increases enterprise value.
- Bi-lingual English-Spanish preferred.
