Job Summary
The Manufacturing Operations Technician II is responsible for overseeing and improving manufacturing processes, ensuring production goals are met, and maintaining the efficiency and quality of production lines. This position requires advanced technical expertise to troubleshoot complex equipment issues, perform routine maintenance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production operations while meeting the company’s cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Production Line Support:
- Operate, set up, and monitor manufacturing equipment and production lines to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machinery, processes, and materials to minimize downtime.
- Perform routine adjustments and calibrations to equipment to maintain production standards and efficiency.
- Process Optimization:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
- Analyze production data and trends to recommend improvements in manufacturing processes or workflows.
- Work with engineering teams to update processes and implement new production technologies.
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, ensuring it operates at optimal capacity.
- Conduct repairs on malfunctioning or broken equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
- Maintain a log of maintenance and repair activities, documenting the reasons for downtime and corrective actions taken.
- Quality Control:
- Monitor production output to ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications.
- Conduct quality inspections and tests on raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products.
- Document quality control results and report any deviations, recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with production supervisors, engineers, and quality control teams to resolve production issues and improve workflows.
- Provide guidance and training to junior technicians or operators on process standards, equipment handling, and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with other departments, ensuring that production schedules and priorities are met.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety procedures and standards, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry standards regarding safety and environmental controls.
- Assist in safety audits, inspections, and the identification of potential hazards in the manufacturing area.
- Production Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of production data, machine performance, quality checks, and maintenance logs.
- Generate reports on production performance, identifying trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing production schedules and forecasts to align with company goals and customer demands.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and Six Sigma projects, to optimize production efficiency and minimize waste.
- Proactively identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies and collaborate with teams to implement effective solutions.
- Stay current with industry advancements, new equipment, and process improvements to ensure the manufacturing operation remains competitive.
Experience/Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or operations role with hands-on involvement in production and equipment maintenance.
Knowledge and Skillsets Required
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient in the use of measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) and diagnostic tools to monitor equipment performance.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex operational issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on maintaining high-quality production standards.
Physical Demands:
- Standing or sitting: For extended periods at lab benches or workstations.
- Using computers: Typing and using the computer
- Equipment: Handling and maintaining scientific instruments
- Manual dexterity: Handling small instruments and samples.
