Job Description:
Title: Creative Technologies and Experiential Learning Support Specialist
Unit: Full-Time MCCC Professional Staff, Grade 04, Special Programs Coordinator
Department: Communications, Art, & Design

General Summary:The Creative Technologies and Experiential Learning Support Specialist provides comprehensive operational and applied learning support within the Communication, Art & Design (CA&D) Department. The position oversees shared instructional labs, creative technologies, the student internship program, and internship logistics to ensure that instructional infrastructure remains current, accessible, and aligned with industry standards. As Communication and Visual Design programs share digital labs, production tools, and experiential learning pathways, this role ensures coordinated management of shared infrastructure and structured support and mentoring for student applied learning across disciplines.
This role works closely with the Media Production Team to support campus-wide media initiatives, external partnerships, and Career Integrated Learning (CIL) opportunities.
The position also coordinates the department's applied learning project pipeline, mentoring student interns as they complete media and design projects, and ensuring professional-quality standards for student-produced work.
The Specialist ensures that design labs, production environments, and instructional technologies remain current, industry-aligned, accessible, and operational. This position plays a critical role in supporting enrollment growth, protecting instructional revenue, safeguarding high-value equipment assets, and advancing the department's strategic plans. Furthermore, it enables faculty to focus on teaching, curriculum development, and academic leadership by consolidating operational oversight within a dedicated full-time staff role.
Duties and Responsibilities:=
Lab & Creative Technology Infrastructure
- Oversee maintenance, lifecycle planning, and inventory tracking of shared instructional labs and creative technologies
- Coordinate hardware refresh cycles, software updates (including Adobe Creative Cloud and related platforms), and seasonal lab preparation.
- Maintain structured asset tracking and preventative maintenance systems.
- Coordinate with IT and external vendors for specialized service and warranty support.
- Manage equipment checkout systems and lab protocols supporting high-volume student use.
Student Internship & Applied Learning Support:
- Serve as the primary coordinator for project requests directed to the CA&D student internship and applied learning program.
- Review incoming requests and assign appropriate projects to student interns based on skills, coursework, and learning goals.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to student interns as they complete design and media projects for campus departments and community partners.
- Support students through the production process, helping them develop professional workflows, project management skills, and client communication practices.
- Conduct final review and quality control of student-produced work to ensure it meets professional standards and project objectives.
- Coordinate with the Media Production Department when projects require shared resources, facilities, or specialized technical support.
- Reinforce NACE-aligned competencies, including professionalism, communication, teamwork, leadership, and technology fluency.
- Support portfolio development and industry-aligned skill-building through structured applied learning experiences.
- Ensure equitable access to applied learning opportunities across diverse student populations.
Operational Systems & Resource Management:
- Develop and maintain systems for lab scheduling, equipment tracking, internship documentation, and student workforce coordination.
- Track operational expenditures related to equipment, supplies, and lab maintenance in collaboration with the Chair and Dean.
- Manage inventory of consumables, peripherals, and instructional materials.
- Support process clarity in purchasing, supply management, and equipment requests.
Event & Experiential Learning Logistics:
- Coordinate logistical support for student showcases, portfolio reviews, employer-connected events, and applied learning initiatives.
- Support faculty-led experiential learning activities requiring lab or equipment coordination.
- Assist with preparation of instructional spaces for high-impact student projects.
Coordination with Media Production Resources:
- Coordinate equipment sharing and scheduling when CA&D students engage in projects involving Media Production resources.
- Maintain communication to ensure operational alignment and clear jurisdictional boundaries.
- Provide logistical support for student projects intersecting with shared production infrastructure, while remaining structurally within CA&D.
Administrative Support:
- Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities.
- Coordinates assigned staff of interns, peer tutors, work-study students, volunteers, or other staff as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Graphic Design, Communication, Film, Media Production, Media Technology, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience
- Experience with graphic design and video editing workflows used in digital media production.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and related tools.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor or supervise students, interns, or entry-level creatives in project-based environments.
- Experience supporting creative technology labs, production equipment, or digital media environments
- Strong organizational, project management, and systems-management skills.
- Ability to guide students through creative project workflows from concept to final deliverable, including basic quality control and revision processes.
- Ability to train and mentor diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with motion graphics or basic animation tools (such as After Effects or similar software).
- Experience supervising student workers, interns, or peer mentors in higher education environments.
- Experience managing equipment inventory systems and technology lifecycle planning
- Experience supporting internship, applied learning, or experiential learning programs Experience working with digital media production tools and equipment, including cameras, lighting kits, and audio equipment.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $65,370 is the starting salary for a grade 04 position; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Employees of Middlesex Community College are considered employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and receive benefits, which include:
