The Phlebotomist Lab Coordinator is a dual functioning role, supporting phlebotomy, specimen processing, and clinical assistant duties. This position reports to the Medical Lab Manager.
Phlebotomist Lab Coordinator Responsibilities
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with others regarding day-to-day operations, including but not limited to ensuring correct collection and billing of in-house versus send out labs and updating on additions of or changes to MNWC lab protocols.
- Collect and process in-house lab specimens and specimens for outside lab companies.
- Accurately enter lab orders into EHR as directed by the provider and scan to patient chart.
- Demonstrating a working knowledge and understanding of the lab billing process for in-house versus send out labs based on patient’s insurance policy and lab test ordered.
- Accurately document lab results in patient lab logbook and EHR immediately after resulting.
- Performing QC on in-house labs.
- Performing testing on in-house labs.
- Assist in monitoring the Lab User tasks in EHR to ensure all telephone encounters are completed in a timely manner.
- Contacting outside reference laboratories as needed to obtain or provide information regarding patient samples or add-on of testing.
- Decontaminates and sterilize instruments; assemble and store and distribute instruments.
- Receive, log, and put away shipments & packages
- Maintain accurate supply inventory and document when items must be reordered
- Stock & clean exam rooms
- Help turnover & fold laundry
- Maintain cleanliness and stocking of back office, including common areas, breakrooms, bathrooms, etc.
- Rooming staff backup, as needed
- Room turnover assistance, as needed
- Ability to prioritize & respond quickly to changing & fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions and Qualifications
- Current phlebotomy certification
- Minimum 1 year healthcare experience
- CPR / BLS certification
- Punctuality and adherence to schedule is a must
- Excellent problem solving and time management skills
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to interact in a professional manner
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Demonstrate strong critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
- Work is performed in a medical office setting using standard medical equipment. The risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids is present.
