GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Uses evidence-based approach to evaluate persons with acquired brain injury and develop an individualized plan of care to reduce impairment, restore function, and increase meaningful participation in life roles. Provide direct recreation therapy services to patients per the plan of care, modify plan of care based on assessment of patient changes, and document services accurately. This role collaborates as part of an intra-disciplinary team leading participation in home and community-based leisure activities individualized to their interests and abilities. The recreation therapist collaborates to facilitate patient rehabilitation and recovery, as well as provide education and training to their care partners. The licensed recreation therapist will uphold the mission, values and goals of Moody Neuro and the therapy department while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and the individuals served while performing assigned duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers and interprets appropriate recreation therapy evaluation procedures and outcome measures for individual patient need
- Appropriately analyzes evaluation information to formulate an individualized recreation therapy plan of care including interventions, recommended frequency and duration of RT services, pertinent goals, and discharge planning to maximize a patient’s recovery and return to leisure and function
- Plans and delivers evidence-based intervention per evaluation and plan of care and incorporating carryover of interdisciplinary goals through individual sessions, group sessions, and community outings
- Develops and maintains relationships with volunteers, businesses, community and agencies for potential patient volunteer placement and community engagement
- Exercises sound clinical decision making and maintain patient safety when planning and evaluating the patient’s response to treatment and evaluation
- Supervise and direct rehab tech as needed
- Performs patient, family and/or care-partner education and training within recreation therapy scope
- Consult with and refer to external medical practitioners when needed, in collaboration with the medical director
- Uses evaluation and treatment findings to determine appropriate discharge planning needs and resources
- Make recommendations for adaptive equipment related to leisure and completes justification as necessary for ordering in a timely manner and in collaboration with other clinical and case management staff
- Completes all required documentation and billing in accordance with the policies and procedures of Moody Neurorehabilitation
- Participate in individualized patient planning meetings and team rounds as warranted by patient need and determined by treatment team
- Assists with staff education training and competencies as appropriate within licensure
- Actively participates in intra-departmental staff meetings, and intra-discipline/department committee assignments
- Participates as a positive and collaborative member of the Moody interdisciplinary team and inter-program team to ensure patient-centered care
- Adheres to the professional behaviors, expectations, Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, all Moody Policies and Procedures, and rules and ethics of licensure
- Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, concerns about abuse or neglect, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
- Actively participates in center-wide initiatives and staff training that affect occupational therapy practice and scope
- Will participate in education programs by teaching and/or supervising students based on clinician experience and organizational need.
- Participates in research projects as warranted by departmental and/or organizational needs
- Performs other duties as required or requested by supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of computers.
- Demonstrates competency in time management, organization, planning to manage and maintain the demands of patient care caseload and all corresponding job responsibilities.
- Takes initiative for personal and clinical growth via opportunities for continuing education and maintaining licensure and certification.
- Collaborates with department, clinical team and organizational support structure and adapting to the changing work demands and environment.
- Demonstrate NCI abilities and knowledge by successfully passing courses, maintain refresher courses, ability to implement the knowledge with patients as needed.
- Maintain CPR certification by successfully passing courses and refresher courses as needed per policy
LIFTING REQUIREMENTS - individuals in clinical care positions are required to lift a trainee/client independently up
to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE
Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited college or university. Completion of a
senior internship.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
CTRS certification by National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Specialists.
EXPERIENCE:
Prefer experience providing direct service to adults with ABI but not required
