Job Description SummaryThe Team Leader for Central Services oversees daily inventory management and replenishment activities within the Operating Room, ensuring the timely availability of medical and surgical supplies. This role supports staff supervision, inventory control, receiving operations, stock rotation, backorder management, and automated inventory system utilization. The Team Leader assists with employee training, coordinates departmental operations, maintains inventory accuracy, and promotes efficient supply chain processes that support quality patient care. Candidates should possess strong leadership, inventory management, and problem-solving skills, with healthcare supply chain and automated inventory system experience preferred.
Position Responsibilities
- Assists the supervision of staff responsible for performing the OR inventory replenishment process. including the proper use of the automated inventory programs.
- Performs daily inventory updates and adjustments through cycle counts and the preference list process to maintain established inventory par levels.
- Utilizes the automated Supply Chain system to process daily replenishment orders for stock and non-stock supplies.
- Process receipt for all supply deliveries. Verifies purchase orders against delivery slips and verifies quantities against materials received. Notes discrepancies and advise supervisor.
- Ensures all overnight orders are given priority and delivered promptly to the charge nurse the same day of receipt. Complies with procedures established by management for special overnight orders.
- Promptly process receipts for refrigerate packages requiring refrigeration. Handle medical/surgical items on a priority basis as specified and directed by supervisor.
- Rotates and checks dated supplies on an ongoing basis ensuring stock rotation and outdated item are removed from the OR inventory. Reports damaged items to supervisor.
- Reviews daily backorder reports. Communicates with Purchasing staff regarding stock and non-stock supply backorders. Coordinates substitute items with approval from the OR clinical staff.
- Confirms inventory by visual inspection. Reviews and reports preference list discrepancies and reports required adjustments to supervisor.
- Answers the telephone, preferably by the third ring demonstrating proper telephone etiquette.
- Assists supervisor with the daily departmental operations. Assists with the orientation and training of new employees.
- Restricts unauthorized persons from the storeroom. Never leave the storeroom unattended and ensures that at least one co-worker is manning the storeroom.
- Maintains safety and security in receiving area and storeroom by removing all trash and debris daily.
- Participate with the coordination of Supply Chain Services formal year-end physical inventories.
