JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: District / Building Maintenance
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Not applicable

TERMS:
This position is a 260 total paid days position offering full family
medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are
paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Vacation, personal business
days, holidays and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement
Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).
SALARY RANGE:
This position is on the Nonunion, Hourly Grade H Scale that is grant
funded, $21.5082 – 28.3221 per hour.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:
The District / Building Maintenance position performs routine inspections, manages general repairs, and handles preventative upkeep for all MAISD buildings which could include electrical, plumbing, light carpentry, HVAC, grounds-keeping, and landscape duties. This position plays a key part in providing a functional, high-quality space for our educational community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs basic preventative, general maintenance and approved repairs for all structures and equipment at assigned site(s), including but not limited to work in electrical, plumbing, light carpentry, HVAC, grounds-keeping, and landscape duties
2. Assist with on-demand requests from faculty and staff as well as duties assigned by Maintenance Supervisor.
3. Performs a wide range of cleaning and general maintenance tasks, which could include carpet and floor care, painting, minor construction projects, landscaping and grounds care, snow removal, vehicle operation, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, etc.
4. Opens buildings and prepares areas for specialized uses such as meetings, conferences, etc.
5. Understands tasks and determines proper materials and equipment needed for repairs and/or replacement.
6. Operates MAISD vehicles to pick up or deliver supplies, equipment, interschool mail, and other necessities.
7. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
8. Data logging and maintenance tracking.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- At least one year successful experience in building/landscape maintenance.
- Ability to recognize custodial and maintenance tasks which need doing and to complete them with minimum supervision.
- A demonstrated mechanical ability in general building maintenance.
- No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of essential job functions and responsibilities.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted at various MAISD owned facilities including two administration buildings, Wesley School, Lakeshore Learning Center, Transition at Craig and the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center.
EVALUATION:
Employees in this classification are evaluated according to current board policy.
TRAVEL/OVERTIME EXPECTATIONS:
Travel is frequently required in the area. Overtime is rare and at the discretion of the district.
PAY STRUCTURE:
This position is on Grade H of the MAISD salary scales.
