Scope of Work:
The Biomedical Technician is responsible for overseeing the overall operational condition, maintenance and repair of all water treatment equipment, all medical equipment and mechanical/electrical systems to ensure patient safety and the safety of all staff operating such equipment for their assigned clinic(s). This role also includes oversight of building and physical plant maintenance, ensuring a safe and functional facility environment, as well as inventory and supply management to support efficient clinical operations.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, and disinfection of dialysis machines, water treatment systems, bicarbonate mixing tanks, and ancillary biomedical equipment per manufacturer and company protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize treatment disruption.
- Maintain appropriate documentation for all equipment repairs, calibrations, and maintenance activities.
- Perform water quality testing (e.g., chlorine, hardness, conductivity) and document results.
- Collect and process samples for microbiological and AAMI testing.
- Analyze water system trends and initiate corrective actions as needed to ensure compliance.
- Train and verify staff competency in water testing procedures and documentation.
- Maintain physical plant and coordinate vendor services per contracts.
- Ensure Fire/Life Safety (F.L.S.) systems and emergency equipment are operational.
- Manage and transport inventory and equipment between sites as required.
- Manage purchasing, receiving, supply ordering, inventory control, and supply-related fiscal management to support efficient and cost-effective operations.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA, AAMI, CMS, and state/federal regulations.
- Attend and participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings.
- Support achievement of clinical outcomes and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide training support to new staff on biomedical equipment and safety practices.
- Serve as a technical resource to clinical and facility staff.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, uninterrupted patient care.
- Participate in team meetings, in-services, and continuing education.
- Provide after-hours on-call support as scheduled.
- Respond to equipment emergencies during dialysis treatments.
- All other duties as assigned

- Day-to-day work includes desk and computer tasks as well as interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians. The position involves active work, including frequent lifting, driving, bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and standing for extended periods. May also be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. as high as 5 feet.
- Occasionally may be required to move, with assistance, patients and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. There is a two-person assist policy and “material assist” devices are required when handling heavy items. Use of dollies and other assistive equipment is mandatory for moving heavy items.
- The work environment is typical of a healthcare setting, with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Employees may be exposed to infectious or contagious materials, radiation, chemicals, and high voltage equipment. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and must be worn as required, including in procedure rooms for extended periods.
- Work may occasionally occur in various outdoor elements. Evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call availability is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or related field preferred
- Valid driver’s license in state of employment; clean driving record required. License must be kept as current, without restrictions
- Reliable transportation for market coverage and participation in on-call rotation
- Previous experience in dialysis, hospital, or healthcare setting preferred.
- Ability to distinguish all primary colors. Must pass Ishihara Color Vision test or be eligible for reasonable accommodation.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver large equipment safely.
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively; strong organizational and time management skills
- Must have basic computer skills; proficiency in all NRC clinical applications required within 30 days of hire
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the English language and ability to communicate in writing as well as verbally
- Ability to meet any additional background checks or onboarding requirements per site protocols
