- Provide 30-minute interventions for participants 3-4 days a week between 8a.m.-5 p.m. or 9a.m.-6 p.m.
- Use literacy/phonological curricula that SPPS specifies (SIPPS-Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words, Sonday, etc.) for daily interventions with youth on site
- Provide youth with books on a bi-weekly basis, from Neighborhood House’s Lending Library
- Collaborate with principals, literacy coaches, teachers, and families about youth in need of literacy services.
- Co-facilitate/plan literacy events and field trips with other literacy instructors and supervisors.
- Assess youth twice a year using FAST reading assessment
- Collect and enter all data in accordance with organizational and funding requirements
- Maintain updated participant records
- Maintain confidentiality of all-program participants in accordance with data privacy laws, standards, and ethics
- Maintain professional communication with staff, volunteers, interns, youth participants, and community partners
- Minimum of 1 year of experience helping youth develop literacy skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working effectively with youth from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds
- Driver’s License and vehicle required (commute to and from schools, sites)
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
- Working knowledge of racial equity and social justice issues relevant to the community we serve and demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds
- Demonstrate ability to manage tasks, projects, and priorities
- Demonstrate ability to move projects to completion by deadlines
- Committed to working both independently and as part of a team
- Degree in Education, Youth Work, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Teacher License
- Fluent in Spanish, Karen, or Hmong or other languages spoken by our students
- Working knowledge of immigrant/refugee trends and needs, self-sufficiency issues and community resources
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite
