Position Summary
The Math Adjunct Instructor provides high-quality instruction in mathematics courses that support
general education, transfer, career and technical programs, and student progression. Assignments may
include quantitative reasoning, algebra, enhanced or co-requisite college algebra, introductory
statistics, mathematics for education programs, or other courses consistent with the instructor's
credentials and departmental need. The instructor creates a structured, supportive learning
environment that develops quantitative reasoning, problem solving, mathematical communication, and
confidence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach assigned mathematics courses in accordance with approved course descriptions, student learning
- Prepare and publish a complete course syllabus and instructional schedule before the course opens to
- Plan and deliver accurate, organized, and accessible instruction using examples, applications, guided
- Meet all scheduled classes and maintain appropriate instructor availability through office hours, email,
- Assess student learning frequently; provide constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback; maintain
established deadlines.
- Use the College learning management system, calculators or mathematical software, and approved
recordkeeping.
- Participate in course and institutional assessment, including common assessment items, documentation
- Coordinate with full-time mathematics faculty and academic leadership regarding course pacing,
- Maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA, accessibility requirements, nondiscrimination
- Complete required orientation, training, credentialing, and compliance activities and perform related
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in mathematics; or a master's degree in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate
- Demonstrated command of the mathematics content required for the assigned course.
- Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly, model multiple problem-solving approaches, and
- Basic proficiency with email, word processing, presentation software, web-based systems, and

- Two or more years of successful college-level mathematics teaching or equivalent adult-learning
- Experience teaching quantitative reasoning, algebra, college algebra, co-requisite or enhanced

- Experience with learning management systems, online homework platforms, outcomes assessment,
- Evidence of effective work with first-generation students, adult learners, and students with varied levels of

- Thorough and accurate knowledge of the assigned mathematics content and its applications.
- Ability to organize instruction around measurable learning outcomes and progressive skill development.
- Strong mathematical, written, oral, interpersonal, and student-support communication skills.
- Ability to diagnose learning gaps, provide timely intervention, and connect students with appropriate
- Ability to evaluate student performance fairly, consistently, and promptly.

- Teaching assignments may be scheduled during the day or evening and may be delivered in person,

Compensation and Appointment Terms
Compensation is based on the current adjunct faculty salary schedule. Appointments are made on a
semester-by-semester, course-by-course basis and do not guarantee future assignments. All appointments
are subject to funding, enrollment, credential verification, and final approval.
