DIRECTOR OF ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES | TRAVERSE CITY, CADILLAC, GRAYLING OR HOUGHTON LAKE (LOCATION TO BE DETERMINED)
Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority is seeking a Director of Adult Mental Health Services. This is an administrative and clinical leadership position responsible for developing, managing, coordinating, and evaluating Adult Mental Health Services across NLCMHA's six-county service area. The position operates with considerable independence under the direction of the Chief Clinical Officer.
The Director is responsible for strategic planning, population management, program development, quality oversight, regulatory compliance, fiscal stewardship, and service outcomes for adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
The Director provides oversight to Operations Managers and Supervisors responsible for Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Adult Case Management, Peer Support Services, and Adult Outpatient Therapy Services. The Director works collaboratively across all service areas to ensure coordinated, person-centered, recovery-oriented, medically necessary, and evidence-based services are delivered in compliance with applicable federal, state, and contractual requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to Adult Mental Health Services.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with NLCMHA policies and applicable laws.
- Conduct supervisory sessions with Operations Managers and supervisor(s) and support performance management activities.
- Assist management in authorizing and reauthorizing plans of service according to NLCMHA authorization guidelines.
- Ensure accountability related to assessments, treatment planning, IPOS development, medical necessity, service delivery, and documentation standards.
- Organize a continuous process ensuring appropriate divisions of work, task differentiation, specialization, and support throughout assigned programs.
- Promote coordinated service delivery across departments and levels of care.
- Ensure consistent implementation of collective bargaining agreements.
- Review and oversee departmental budgets, expenditures, staffing plans, and resource allocation.
- Effectively address disciplinary issues and performance concerns.
- Establish measurable performance standards and monitor outcomes.
- Establish procedures for monitoring workflow, productivity, quality indicators, and staff development.
- Participate in leadership on-call functions and provide crisis consultation.
- Represent NLCMHA on internal and external committees, workgroups, and community initiatives.
- Provide crisis intervention services when appropriate.
- Assist existing management as crisis supervisor on call.
Strategic and System Leadership:
- Develop and implement a long-range strategic plan for Adult Mental Health Services.
- Evaluate trends in access, utilization, crisis services, engagement, and outcomes.
- Lead program development and service expansion initiatives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on organizational strategic priorities.
- Promote integrated, recovery-oriented, and person-centered systems of care.
Program Oversight:
- Provides oversight for:
- Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
- Adult Case Management
- Peer Support Services
- Adult Outpatient Therapy Services
Quality, Compliance and Clinical Oversight:
- Ensure services are provided in accordance with the Michigan Mental Health Code, Medicaid Provider Manual, MDHHS requirements, NMRE standards, CARF standards, and applicable laws.
- Monitor medical necessity determinations and utilization trends.
- Oversee corrective action plans and quality improvement activities.
- Promote evidence-based practices and positive consumer outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited university
- Must have licensure with the State of Michigan as a fully licensed professional:
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) - strongly preferred
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Must have ability to be credentialed by NLCMHA to provide services in this professional discipline

- Five years of progressive leadership experience in Community Mental Health or Behavioral Health
- Experience overseeing adult mental health services, ACT, case management, peer support, or outpatient programs
- Experience with Medicaid-funded services, person-centered planning, utilization management, and regulatory compliance
PAY: $97,374 - $107,724
