Job Description: Building Support Educator
Reports To: School Principal
Skills and Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education or related field preferred
- Previous experience working in a school or youth-centered environment strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom and deliver instruction with minimal preparation
- Commitment to student equity, high expectations, and the mission of turnaround schools
- Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a team-oriented mindset
General Description: The Building Support Educator is a vital member of the school community who provides daily instructional and operational support aligned with the goals of the Commissioner’s Network. This position is designed to provide flexible, consistent coverage for classrooms and other critical school-based functions, ensuring that students receive high-quality, uninterrupted instruction and services. Unlike a traditional substitute, the Building Support Educator is embedded in the school culture and plays an ongoing, proactive role in student achievement and school improvement efforts.
Note: This position is part of the school’s commitment to sustained improvement under the Commissioner’s Network. The Building Support Educator will be an integral part of the school’s efforts to create a stable, responsive learning environment that prioritizes student achievement and whole-child development.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Coverage & Support
- Provide short-term classroom coverage during teacher absences, including during collaborative planning time, professional development sessions, and unanticipated staff absences.
- Deliver prepared instructional materials and maintain continuity of learning in alignment with district and school expectations.
- Support small group instruction, intervention blocks, or enrichment periods as directed.
Operational Support
- Provide assistance during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and hallway transitions to ensure a safe and orderly school environment.
- Support testing coordination and implementation, including state assessments, district benchmarks, and progress monitoring.
- Monitor study halls, in-school support spaces, and other non-traditional learning environments.
School Improvement Alignment
- Participate in school-based professional learning aligned with the Commissioner’s Network improvement plan.
- Support implementation of tiered interventions and wraparound services, working in collaboration with teachers, counselors, and support staff.
- Assist with family engagement efforts, communication home, and coordination of school events.
Flexibility & Responsiveness
- Remain on-call throughout the day to respond to immediate building needs.
- Serve as a consistent presence for students across grades and programs, developing positive, professional relationships.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by school leadership to support the overall functioning of the school.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support services.
Terms of Employment: Full-time (Commissioner's Network Grant-Funded), 7 hrs/day (plus .5 unpaid lunch), school-based, 10-month position.
Salary: $26.00/hr
