The job details are as follows:
OCLC's Cloud Library team is seeking an experienced AWS Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable cloud-based applications that serve libraries and their users around the world. This role requires a strong technical foundation, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to contribute across the software development lifecycle—from architecture and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.The ideal candidate is a full-stack engineer who thrives in a cloud-native environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and can provide technical leadership while partnering closely with product, engineering, and operations teams.
Full-Stack development experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
Software Design & Development
Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications using Node.js and TypeScript on the backend and Svelte on the frontend.
Build high-performance, system-level services and tools using Rust where reliability and speed are critical
Contribute to React Native mobile features and collaborate with mobile-focused engineers when needed
Design, develop, and administer PostgreSQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and routine maintenance
Manage and maintain Unix/Linux server environments, including scripting, process management, and system configuration
Deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications using Kubernetes
Work with AWS services, including ECS for container orchestration and S3 for object storage and static asset management
Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical documentation
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and security vulnerabilities across the stack
Collaborate with cross-functional teams using agile methodologies
Technical Leadership
Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering team members.
Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Promote engineering best practices, design patterns, and coding standards.
Help identify technical debt and recommend strategic improvements.
Quality & Operational Excellence
Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to quality, security, and performance standards.
Support CI/CD processes and DevOps practices to enable reliable software delivery.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while participating in operational support activities.
Participate in monitoring, observability, and incident response efforts.
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of business objectives.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong experience developing scalable web applications and distributed systems.
Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js.
Experience working with relational database technologies.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred
Experience with cloud-native application architecture and distributed systems.
Experience supporting highly available, customer-facing SaaS applications.
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
