Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager, the MRI Technologist performs MRI exams, screens and monitors patient care in the MRI environment, and assists the Radiologist in implementation of MRI protocols. The MRI Technologist helps out in the DI Department as time permits within the schedule.
Responsibilities include:
- Practices proper safety precautions in the magnet environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist.
- Performs MRI examinations on patients of all ages for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of patient illnesses and injuries.
- Maintains an updated MRI protocol manual.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, makes minor repairs on MRI equipment, and arranges for repairs as needed.
- Ability to position patients and determine exposure factors based on height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree of penetration required.
- Helps out in the DI Department as time permits within the MRI schedule. Performing X-rays, CTs, Portables, C-Arm, EKG, and Dexa as abilities and training allow.
- Practice radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
- Orient new staff and train students.
- Work independently.
- Complies with federal, state and OMC professional requirements.
- Deliver high quality customer service to internal and external customers by communicating using AIDET.
- Follows policies, procedures and standard work.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Participates in quality & process improvement projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
- Knowledge of current technical skills and procedural understanding to perform a full range of radiologic scanning procedures and injections
- Knowledge and adherence to ALARA principles
- Knowledge of and adherence to company policies and protocols
- Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA and safety guidelines
- Knowledge of basic techniques of Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Knowledge of routines and procedures required to produce quality MR images for a wide variety of procedures, including advanced and specialized procedures.
- Knowledge of safety techniques, including practices related to magnetic and radiofrequency fields required during MR procedures.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing work and following assignments through to completion
- Skill in written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet established deadlines
- Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change
- Ability to effectively handle details with accuracy
- Ability to maintain regular attendance and on-time arrival to work as scheduled
- Ability to deliver high quality customer service to internal and external customers by communicating with integrity and compassion
- Ability to recognize potential abnormalities, adjust process and communicate with radiologist as appropriate
- Ability to remain calm in difficult situations
- Ability to resolve service recovery issues and understand when to escalate to the next level
- Ability to operate and adjust scanning and ancillary equipment
Physical Requirements for the Role:
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs.
- May be exposed to chemicals, cold, dust, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Qualifications:
Education-
- Graduate of the American Medical Association (AMA) approved school of radiography
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Must have training and experience sufficient to competently perform MR procedures independently
Licenses and Credentials-
- Registered Technologist RT(R)
- RT(R)(MR) Preferred
- State of Wisconsin Radiographer License
Work Environment:
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and walking, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion (computer keyboard). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
