JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our Lady of Good Counsel High School seeks a Long-Term Substitute Religion Teacher to teach
World Religions and Catholic Social Teaching courses for 3-4 months beginning November 2026.
This position offers the opportunity to form young people in faith and character within a vibrant
Catholic, college-preparatory community sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers.
JOB TYPE: Faculty — Full-time, Temporary/Long-Term Substitute
LOCATION: Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, 17301 Old Vic Blvd., Olney, MD 20832
SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: Reports to the Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in World Religions and Catholic Social Teaching
- Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including tests, projects,
- Form students in faith, character, and the Xaverian core values of compassion, humility,
- Integrate Catholic Social Teaching principles into coursework, connecting classroom
- Maintain accurate and timely grade records using the school's Google
- Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues regarding
- Participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, and school-wide professional
- Supervise students during class periods, and as assigned.
- Model and support the Catholic mission and identity of the school in and out of the
classroom
- Collaborate with the Theology Department to ensure continuity of instruction with the
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or department chair
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required; degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or related field
preferred
Prior teaching experience preferred, particularly at the secondary level
Practicing Catholic preferred, with a strong understanding of and commitment to Catholic
doctrine and Catholic Social Teaching
Familiarity with or willingness to embrace the Xaverian Brothers' educational philosophy and
charism
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
Comfort using digital tools for instruction, grading, and communication (e.g., Google Classroom,
PowerSchool, or similar platforms)
Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with high school students
SKILLS: Ability to plan and deliver effective lesson plans, assess student learning, work as a
member of a collaborative team, communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, enforce
school policies, and follow school procedures. Ability to effective leverage technology in
performance of duties.
REQUIRED WORK HOURS: Monday- Friday from 8:15a -3:30p, Full-time, from approximately
November 2026 – February 2027
SALARY: 185.00 dollars per day.

The school was founded in 1958 as an all-boys school in Wheaton, Maryland. In 1988, the
school became coeducational. During the 2006-2007 school year, the school relocated to a new,
