POSITION SUMMARY
Overland Corporation is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our equipment maintenance team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy construction equipment and diesel-powered machinery. The mechanic will perform repairs both in the shop and in the field to ensure equipment remains operational and downtime is minimized.
JOB DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS
Essential Duties
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic system failures.
- Repair and service diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, steering, brake systems, and hydraulic components.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and identify root causes of failures.
- Perform repairs in both shop and field environments as needed.
- Utilize diagnostic software, testing equipment, and service manuals to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Accurately document repairs, parts usage, and equipment status.
- Communicate repair needs and equipment conditions to supervisors and equipment managers.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and heavy equipment systems.
- Understanding of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information.
- Knowledge of safe work practices related to equipment maintenance and repair.
- Familiarity with construction equipment manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, and similar brands is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, or related position.
- Ability to independently diagnose and repair equipment failures.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to provide basic hand tools; company provides specialty tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- OEM equipment training or certifications (CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, etc.).
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull equipment components weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and rain.
- Ability to work around moving equipment, machinery, and construction operations.
- Ability to safely operate service vehicles and repair equipment in field conditions.
