The Subsurface well Data Integration Specialist is a Houston-based member of the Technical Systems & Data organization and a core part of the Subsurface Data Management team. This position serves as the subject matter expert, integration specialist, and primary point of contact for subsurface well master data management (WMDM) — leading the creation, population, integration, and ongoing quality of master databases for well surface and subsurface data.
Core responsibilities include maintaining subsurface data integration processes, correcting data based on Data Quality Management (DQM) reports, and liaising with Data Advisors, business leadership, and System of Record (SOR) owners to identify, integrate, and monitor critical well data within the WMDM. The role works with vendors and IT to automate loading of competitor data, and partners with data management leads to ensure Landmark R5000, OpenWorks, and Petrel Studio databases are correctly updated with owned and competitor well data under the established master data framework. The Specialist also contributes to defining data, data quality, process, and governance standards for WMDM.
As the organization modernizes its subsurface data platform, this role also supports alignment of well data integration practices with OSDU (Open Subsurface Data Universe) and AWS cloud migration initiatives, working alongside technical architecture teams as needed. The Specialist will also support the transition from legacy ETL data structures towards the organization's modern platform, helping preserve relationship context, lineage, and data quality throughout the migration.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business and subsurface domain requirements into scalable, secure, and cloud-optimized data and integration architectures
- Drive the adoption of OSDU data structures across exploration, drilling, production, and reservoir engineering data domains.
- Lead the integration of existing Petrotechnical and subsurface systems (e.g., Petrel, OpenWorks, Studio) with OSDU-compliant platforms
- Data Integration: Integrate and enhance well data types into OpenWorks R5000 and Petrel Studio repositories using data management tools such as Schlumberger's InnerLogix Suite, with hands-on experience integrating source SOR data and attributes (EDM/OpenWells, RECALL) into the master data management framework.
- Design solutions using major cloud providers (e.g., AWS) with a preference for OSDU-supported clouds
- Establish and enforce best practices for data modeling, metadata tagging, identity and access management (IAM), and API security
- Data Quality Monitoring & Governance: Monitor, support, and maintain the established Well Data Management Framework for acceptable levels of data quality; report areas of non-compliance to System of Record (SOR) owners and Data Management leadership.
- Exception & Correction Processing: Work established WMDM processes and exception/correction reports on a scheduled basis using Data Quality Standards, and propose enhancements to processes and business rules to improve overall well data quality.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Work with stakeholders and Data Advisors per DQM (exceptions/corrections) reports to ensure data is corrected at the SOR level, then monitor InnerLogix transfers from master databases into OpenWorks and Petrel Studio to confirm accuracy in project databases.
- Complex Issue Troubleshooting: Research well history and resolve complex data issues for domestic and international wells within working Geoscience projects (OpenWorks and Petrel Studio), coordinating with extended Data Management teams for SOR-level fixes that implement well data governance.
- Petrophysical Data Validation: Monitor and validate petrophysical interpretations loaded to working projects via automation, for both domestic and international assets.
- Trade & Operated-by-Others (OBO) Data: Identify and manage data for trade wells and OBO wells, making it available to Geoscience teams in working projects to reduce third-party data purchases.
- Project Administration: Support OpenWorks project administration and automation troubleshooting across Permian, Rockies, GOM, International Exploration, International Assets, and Low Carbon Venture; lead legacy data cleanup efforts (e.g., Permian) to remove redundant datasets and resolve well data issues.
- Drilling & Completions Integration: Liaise with the Data Management team to ensure critical and master drilling and completions data is correctly integrated with master and project databases.
- Well Data Lifecycle Support: Load, validate, and integrate WMDM data to project databases on a scheduled and on-demand basis; participate in well master data management-related projects.
- OSDU / Cloud Alignment: Support integration of existing subsurface systems (Petrel, OpenWorks, Studio) with OSDU-compliant, AWS cloud-based platforms as part of the organization's broader data modernization roadmap.
- Platform Modernization: Support the organization's transition from legacy InnerLogix data structures to, a microservice based platform, helping preserve relationship context, lineage, and data quality through migration; assist with reconciling and validating well data as it moves into the new platform's set-based processing and search (Lucene) environment.
- Industry Awareness: Keep abreast of industry trends in surface and subsurface well master data management, and provide ongoing guidance and support across the organization.
