Adjunct Faculty for Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP) Program
Provide instruction on advanced nursing theory and/or practice that facilitates students’ achievement of course learning outcomes and facilitates meeting program learning outcomes. Support students’ progression in the academic program and socialization into the role of an advanced practice nurse/nurse practitioner. Part-time faculty consistently demonstrate Pacific College’s values as outlined in the course catalog.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position duties may include, but are not limited to:
Core Nursing:
- Assists with development, implementation, teaching, and evaluating the philosophy and program learning outcomes of the nursing education program.
- Assists with the designs, implementation, teaching, evaluation, and revision of the
- Teaches courses matching the specialty as assigned. This includes theory and clinical courses, skills lab, simulation, and student tutoring.
Didactic:
- Responsible for teaching and evaluating students in the online
- Implements an effective learning environment that facilitates student learning to address contemporary issues in advanced nursing.
- Utilizes an array of assessment tools to evaluate student
- Actively participates in the systematic plan for curriculum design, program evaluation and program revision.
- Recognizes the role of a nurse educator and pursues continuous in-service/professional development opportunities annually.
- Serves as an advisor to nursing
- Develops student success plans and remediates “at risk”
Clinical:
- Oversees instruction and grading of students by clinical preceptors.
- Facilitates the nursing students’ application of theory to clinical
- Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of overall program, program outcomes and course outcomes.
- Communicates effectively utilizing professional techniques with clinical agency representatives, preceptors’, and students.
- Identifies and immediately communicates problem areas/clinical areas of concern to the Director, MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program and recommends changes and solutions as appropriate.
- Provides needed communication with Director, MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program concerning student progress including successes and identified needs, clinical issues, suggestions, and/or professional learning needs.
- As a clinical instructor, grades clinical papers and provides students with timely and clear
- Maintains all records on student performance, e., Student Success Plan and Mid-term and final clinical evaluations.
- Adheres to/enforces the policies and procedures of Pacific
- Completes student
In addition to responsibilities for teaching didactic and/or clinical classes
- Connects students to college resources for their
- Consistently demonstrates and coaches’ students on professional skills:
- Leadership and ethics
- Communication and critical thinking
- Teamwork, interprofessional collaboration
- Responsibility and dependability
- Overall professionalism
- Participates in college governance meetings as available.
- Participates in department meetings, faculty meetings, in-service offerings, and other nursing events (i.e., Research/Scholarship Day, graduation, pinning, etc.) as available.
- Provides input to developing, evaluating, and revising program policies through the governance
- Collaborates on scholarly activities such as formal evaluations of teaching and clinical programs and disseminates this scholarly work through presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals as available.
- Perform other duties as needed as available.
Requirements for Employment
Faculty shall provide evidence of education and experience necessary to indicate that they are competent to teach a given course or clinical practicum.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required and a doctorate is preferred. Master’s degrees in other disciplines are accepted if a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a credential (i.e. MPH) or if educated in a core course (PharmD). Must have a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner credential to teach the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty courses and clinicals.
- A minimum of one (1) years’ experience in online teaching. For Family Nurse Practitioner specialty courses, a minimum of one year experience providing direct patient care as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Holds a current unencumbered state professional license (RN, FNP, PharmD). If teaching specialty courses, must have National board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Maintains professional competence/expertise in teaching through activities such as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects and professional writing.
