BASIC FUNCTION
The Mental Health-Intensive Case Manager is a member of the Palmdale School District special education team and is directly involved with the support of students with special needs throughout the Antelope Valley SELPA (AV SELPA). The Mental Health-Intensive Case Manager assists AV SELPA member districts with the assessment, support, training, consultation and collaboration of supports for students requiring Educationally Related Services (ERICS) and/or behavioral services.
Supervision Exercised or Received:
Reports directly to the Director of Special Education, with support from the Program Specialist II or Mental Health Coordinator. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide individual counseling, parent counseling and case management (social work services) including service planning, monitoring, follow-up, linkage and crisis management for students and parents.
- Maintain on-going communication and coordination with community-based agencies and services.
- Collect on-going progress monitoring data in order to track program effectiveness.
- Coordinate crisis response for students who receive intensive case management services.
- Provide Evidence-Based Practices for students and parents/guardians when appropriate
- Attend Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings as necessary to review assessment results, goal/objective development, student progress and consult when needed.
- Write, implement, and monitor individual goals and objectives for students identified with behavioral or ERICS when appropriate.
- Provide staff development and training specific to the areas of social/emotional, behavior management techniques, and other appropriately related topic areas.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Relate effectively to and demonstrate receptive attitude toward children with severe disabilities, and toward students and parents of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills that support program objectives.
- Identify and work collaboratively with co-workers to solve problematic issues as they arise.
- Complete assessment reports that meet legal mandates to include content and timelines.
- Provide written assessments reports within legal timelines.
- Work cooperatively with all members of the IEP instructional team, including administration, psychologists, health care professionals, designated instructional service providers, paraeducators, general education teachers and parents.
- Utilize a variety of computer operating and software programs (i.e., WIndows, Mac, Microsoft Office, Excel, SEIS, etc.).
- Implement district and school policies/procedures regarding state and federal laws.
- Process and maintain confidential files, as required by state and federal laws.
- Understand and follow both oral and written directions.
- Work within an established schedule, meeting necessary timelines.
- Exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
- Maintain flexibility, such as changes in staff or individual student programs.
- Attend required SELPA and district meetings and events.
- Drive to school sites in districts throughout the Antelope Valley.
- Provide collaboration with students, parents/guardians and educational staff in identifying strengths/needs in developing IEP goals.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Examination
Following the evaluation of training and experience, and responses to supplemental questions, the most qualified applicants selected to move forward will be invited to participate in the structured oral examination. Make-up exams will not be offered.
After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. When eligibility lists include open and promotional lists of qualified persons through competitive examination, the promotional list will be used first, unless otherwise stated on this bulletin.
Work Schedule:
This position typically works full-time, 8 hours/day, 40-hours/week, and observes a 12-month work calendar.
Salary
Salary placement for a new employee is typically at the first step ($105,681/annually) of the six (6) step salary schedule. Upon successful completion of the initial probationary period, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with all future annual advances occurring on the established anniversary date.
Probationary Period
Persons in this position are required to successfully satisfy a probationary period of one (1) year from the date of appointment. During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance.

Leaves
One (1) day of paid sick leave of absence is earned for each full month of service. The amount of sick leave granted may be accumulated from year to year. Vacation is earned at the rate of two (2) days for each month in paid status for a maximum of twenty-four (24) days per year. There are seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year.

Physical Demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, squatting, reaching, and twisting at waist; sitting or standing for extended periods; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to read printed materials and monitor student-related activities; exposure to temperature swings in climate-controlled and outdoor environments.
