Position Summary:
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive outpatient pediatric care, including preventive and well-child visits, acute care, chronic disease management, developmental assessments, behavioral health screening, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat pediatric illnesses, injuries, developmental concerns, behavioral health concerns, and other healthcare needs within the scope of outpatient pediatric practice.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with applicable laws, evidence-based clinical standards, and PanCare policies.
- Educate patients, parents, guardians, and caregivers regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, nutrition, growth and development, injury prevention, chronic disease management, and preventive healthcare.
- Coordinate care with specialists, hospitals, behavioral health providers, dental providers, schools, community organizations, and other healthcare professionals, including referral or transfer to a higher level of care when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient encounters, orders, referrals, treatment plans, and follow up care in the electronic health record.
- Lead the design, implementation, and continued development of PanCare’s pediatric program in alignment with the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and identified community needs.
- Establish the pediatric program’s clinical vision, scope of services, standards of care, workflows, protocols, staffing recommendations, and service delivery model.
- Evaluate community needs, patient demographics, referral patterns, utilization trends, and barriers to care to guide pediatric program growth and potential expansion.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, quality, compliance, finance, human resources, information technology, and other organizational leaders regarding pediatric staffing, resources, equipment, scheduling, access, and program sustainability.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, childcare providers, social service organizations, public health agencies, specialists, and other community partners serving children and families.
- Provide clinical supervision, consultation, coaching, and professional oversight to pediatric physicians, advanced practice providers, and designated clinical team members.
- Establish and communicate expectations related to clinical quality, patient safety, documentation, continuity of care, provider competency, and professional practice.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, orientation, credentialing, privileging, peer review, competency assessment, and professional development of pediatric providers.
- Evaluate pediatric provider clinical performance and provide recommendations to the Chief Medical Officer regarding coaching, development, corrective action, or restriction of clinical duties when appropriate.
- Collaborate with operational leadership regarding staffing, scheduling, workflow, productivity, and patient access. Routine administrative supervision, including time-off approval, attendance management, workflow direction, and employee discipline, remains with the applicable operational leader.
- Provide pediatric education, consultation, and training to PanCare providers and clinical staff to strengthen organizational competency in caring for infants, children, and adolescents.
- Lead pediatric quality improvement, patient safety, clinical risk management, and compliance activities, including monitoring clinical outcomes, documentation standards, patient complaints, safety events, access measures, and other program performance indicators.
- Ensure pediatric services comply with applicable federal and state laws, professional standards, payer requirements, PanCare policies, and requirements related to HRSA, FTCA, HIPAA, OSHA, AAAHC, Medicaid, informed consent, guardianship, confidentiality, treatment of minors, and mandatory reporting.
- Participate in organizational strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, leadership meetings, clinical audits, accreditation surveys, HRSA reviews, and other regulatory or program activities as assigned.
- Represent PanCare professionally in interactions with patients, families, providers, employees, community partners, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications, credentials, privileges, continuing education, and professional competency throughout employment.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, PanCare’s Code of Conduct, and all applicable organizational policies.
- Demonstrates commitment to organizational compliance and quality standards by following established policies and procedures, maintaining regulatory requirements, participating in quality improvement efforts, and reporting concerns through appropriate channels.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of pediatric medicine, including preventive care, acute care, chronic disease management, growth and development, behavioral health, and adolescent health.
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to evaluate and manage a broad range of pediatric conditions in an outpatient setting.
- Knowledge of evidence-based pediatric clinical guidelines, quality measures, documentation requirements, patient safety standards, and applicable federal and Florida laws governing pediatric care, treatment of minors, consent, guardianship, confidentiality, and mandatory reporting.
- Understanding of Federally Qualified Health Center operations, HRSA requirements, FTCA risk management principles, payer requirements, and healthcare accreditation standards.
- Ability to develop, implement, and expand a pediatric clinical program, including translating clinical strategy into practical workflows, protocols, staffing models, performance measures, and operational processes.
- Strong medical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and clinical oversight skills, including the ability to evaluate provider competency, clinical performance, documentation quality, patient outcomes, and adherence to professional standards.
- Knowledge of credentialing, privileging, peer review, quality improvement, risk management, and professional practice evaluation.
- Ability to analyze clinical and operational data, identify trends, develop effective improvement strategies, and make sound decisions.
- Ability to balance direct patient care with medical leadership, program development, and administrative responsibilities.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills, including the ability to communicate complex clinical information clearly to varied audiences.
- Strong organizational, planning, and change-management skills, with a commitment to patient-centered, family-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems, clinical technology, healthcare data, and standard office applications.
- Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required to support business operations.
Education/Experience:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited medical school required.
- Successful completion of an accredited residency program in pediatrics required.
- Current board certification in pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics required.
- Minimum of five years of post-residency clinical experience in pediatric medicine preferred.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Florida required.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration registration required.
- Current Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications required.
- Previous medical leadership, clinical administrative, or program development experience preferred.
- Experience developing, implementing, or expanding pediatric services or clinical programs strongly preferred.
- Experience providing clinical supervision, mentorship, or professional oversight to physicians or advanced practice providers preferred.
- Must be eligible for PanCare credentialing and privileging, participation in applicable federal and state healthcare programs and payer networks, and FTCA coverage.
