Big company opportunity. Small company attitude. Discover just right.
At Post Consumer Brands, we believe great careers happen when talented people have the opportunity to make a real impact. That’s exactly what you'll find in Battle Creek—one of the most complex and fascinating manufacturing environments in our network.
We’re looking for a hands-on Maintenance Planner who enjoys solving problems, building efficient work plans, and helping maintenance teams perform at their best. If you're someone who likes being on the plant floor, working alongside skilled tradespeople, and making sure the right work gets done at the right time, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
About the Role
As a Maintenance Planner II, you'll serve as a critical link between Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance. This role helps ensure maintenance work is planned, prioritized, staffed, and executed efficiently so our facility can operate safely and reliably.
At our Battle Creek facility, you'll help coordinate work across a massive operation spanning approximately 1.5 million square feet and supporting a wide variety of equipment—from legacy systems that have been serving the plant for decades to newer technologies shaping the future of manufacturing.
This isn't a planner role that sits behind a desk. Success comes from getting onto the plant floor, understanding the equipment, evaluating work requirements firsthand, coordinating resources, and building plans that allow our maintenance teams to execute safely and effectively. As the hiring manager described it, the Maintenance Planner is the "heartbeat" of the maintenance organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate maintenance work by reviewing new work orders, confirming job scope, estimating labor and material needs, and building complete job packages.
- Maintain an accurate, up-to-date maintenance backlog and ensure work order information is complete, accurate, and ready for execution.
- Identify job steps, safety requirements, lockouts, tag-outs, permits, parts, materials, tools, labor hours, and cost estimates needed to complete work successfully.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisors, Planners, Storeroom partners, contractors, and operations teams to align work with available resources and business priorities.
- Support weekly maintenance schedules and shutdown schedules by reconciling manpower needs with available resources.
- Prepare, publish, and support shutdown schedules, including manpower planning, timeline development, and post-shutdown lessons learned.
- Maintain accurate data in EAM/CMMS systems, including equipment master records, repair histories, preventive maintenance plans, equipment bills of materials, and completed work updates.
- Serve as a site superuser for maintenance systems and processes, including training and mentoring maintenance technicians, planners, and operations teams on EAM usage.
- Create standard work, recurring preventive and predictive maintenance routines, site reports, and KPIs.
- Participate in projects involving requirements, maintainability, equipment reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Associate degree, or equivalent work experience, in a technical or manufacturing discipline required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) or similar certification preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of plant production and packaging processes.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Five or more years of engineering or maintenance experience in a plant environment preferred.
- Four years using EAM/CMMS systems preferred; Infor EAM experience is desirable.
- Two to five years of maintenance planning or similar experience.
- Knowledge of maintenance management principles, including precision maintenance, preventive maintenance, shutdown planning, and contingency planning.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to influence across the facility, manage multiple priorities, teach and train others, and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintenance leadership, lead technician, supervisor, coordinator, or planner experience can all provide a strong foundation for success in this role.
- Food manufacturing experience is helpful but not required.
Why They'll Love This Role
This is a role where your planning makes a real difference. You'll help determine how maintenance work is prioritized, prepared, scheduled, and executed across a large-scale manufacturing operation. The work you do directly impacts equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and operational performance.
You'll join a collaborative team that works closely across Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations. Team members support one another, share knowledge, and work together to solve challenges that keep the facility running.
You'll also have the opportunity to work in an environment that's investing in predictive maintenance technologies and automated data collection while still providing hands-on exposure to a wide variety of industrial systems and equipment.
For professionals looking to grow their careers, this role can provide future opportunities in Reliability, Maintenance Leadership, Shift Leadership, and Operations Maintenance Coordination.
Most importantly, you'll have the chance to make your mark in an organization that combines the resources of a large company with the ability to have a meaningful handprint on the work you do every day.
