Social Media and Content Specialist - Employee, Development and Communications

Position Summary
In collaboration with the Social Media Manager, the Social Media and Content Specialist will own the daily social media presence for Project HOPE across platforms. They will conceptualize, write, post, and engage with our community online to build trust and credibility, reach a diverse audience across multiple demographics, and support fundraising initiatives. This role requires a creative and collaborative thinker, and an empathetic storyteller who can translate social analytics into opportunities for growth.
We're seeking a skilled social media expert who can creatively share the stories of our global impact and inspire supporters to take action. From donor and partner communications on LinkedIn to fundraising appeals that mobilize emergency responses on Instagram to influencer campaigns that educate audiences about our programs, you'll communicate the critical importance of Project HOPE's work across every channel.
This position combines purpose-driven storytelling with strategic marketing communications, requiring someone who can translate complex health issues into engaging content, persuasive fundraising copy, and compelling narratives that move hearts, minds, and resources toward our mission. The ideal candidate understands how to build and maintain a distinctive, authentic brand voice for a global organization.
The Social Media and Content Specialist will work closely with our Communications, Development, and Program teams to craft emotionally resonant content that authentically represents Project HOPE's global health work, and inspires meaningful action in support of our fundraising, awareness, and engagement goals.
Principal Responsibilities
Content Planning and Execution:
- Build and maintain the social content calendar across all Project HOPE channels with a focus on LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, and TikTok
- Write engaging and educational copy for daily posts, video scripts, and graphics while thoughtfully adapting messaging for diverse audiences from major donors and organizational peers to young activists learning about Project HOPE on TikTok
- Schedule and publish posts, thoughtfully optimized for each platform
- Maintain brand voice consistency across all channels to ensure authenticity and emotional resonance
- Translate complex program information into clear, accessible, and persuasive copy
- Create content that drives engagement and action
Asset Coordination:
- Submit image and video asset requests to the creative team with clear specifications and manageable timelines
- Track asset progress through the approval pipeline when collaborating with the creative team
- Coordinate with additional Project HOPE teams as needed to support creative production
Community Presence:
- Monitor and engage with comments, replies, DMs, and community discussions daily to build extended trust with audiences online
- Thoughtfully interact with partners, creators, celebrities, and other organizations online to build visibility and organic relationships
Strategy and Innovation:
- Research and report on audience preferences and platform algorithm changes in real time
- Pitch new content ideas and formats to leadership
- Test tactics and use analytics to improve performance
- Identify growth opportunities on emerging platforms
Quality and Process:
- Follow established approval workflow process to ensure brand alignment before publishing
- Maintain close attentiveness to detail including copy integrity, cultural appropriateness, brand consistency, tags, links, and assets for accuracy before posting
- Flag potential issues proactively and communicate status updates to the team as needed
- Support day-to-day marketing team operations such as project intake, Asana tracking, and production coordination, as needed.
Video Content (desired, but not required):
- Concept, shoot, and edit short-form video content for TikTok and Instagram Reels
Identify trending formats and sounds and adapt them for Project HOPE-aligned content
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 3-5 years of professional social media experience
- Proven track record of creating content that drives measurable engagement or donations
- Experience writing for diverse audiences and cultural contexts
- Strong understanding of ethical storytelling practices, particularly regarding vulnerable populations
- Demonstrated ability to write compelling copy with proven results
- Growth mindset a must. Experience setting KPIs and leveraging analytics to track toward goals.
- A fine eye for editing, grammar, punctuation; a close ear for appropriate tone across moments and messaging
- An eye and voice for great storytelling with utmost respect and sensitivity toward people of all cultures
- Must be available when needed on nights and weekends, especially during crisis communications and emergencies
PREFER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior agency or in-house role
- Multilingual, e.g., Arabic, other
- Video editing experience

Salary range for this position is $63,000 - $65,000. Compensation for the role is dependent on several factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.
