BASIC FUNCTION:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Chromebook Hardware, Cable, and Multimedia
Technician to join our technical support team. The successful candidate will be responsible
for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Chromebook hardware, installing and
troubleshooting network cables, and setting up and maintaining multimedia equipment. This
role requires a strong technical aptitude, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work
efficiently both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be a
self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
A Microcomputer / Chromebook Technician’s main responsibilities are testing, grading,
tearing down, diagnosing hardware and software issues, counting/boxing parts, maintaining
parts inventory, cleaning Chromebooks, and work order entry logs on a computer.
Other duties may include assisting school technicians at schools, installing software, moving
computers, installation, termination and certifying of CAT6 wiring, hanging and configuration
of security cameras, digital signage, Interactive Displays, Etc.....
Other responsibilities may be assigned at discretion of the District Technology Coordinator
and Computer Operations Manager.
- Chromebook Diagnosis and Repair:
O Diagnose hardware issues in Chromebooks, including but not limited to
display, keyboard, battery, motherboard, and connectivity problems.
O Perform repairs and replacements of defective or damaged hardware
components.
O Ensure all repairs are performed with precision and in a timely manner.
- Chromebook Maintenance:
hardware to ensure optimal performance.
o Perform hardware upgrades as needed, including memory, storage, and
other components.
- Inventory Management:
o Maintain and track spare parts inventory.
o Order and restock parts and materials as necessary to maintain an efficient
workflow.
- Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of all repairs, installations, and maintenance
activities, including diagnostics, procedures performed, and parts used.
o Provide detailed reports on recurring issues and potential improvements to
hardware, network, and multimedia maintenance processes.
- Customer Service:
issues they are experiencing.
- Cable Installation and Maintenance:
o Install and configure network cables, including CAT6 Ethernet, and fiber
optic cables.
o Perform routine inspections and maintenance of network cabling to ensure
network integrity and performance.
o Troubleshoot and repair cable issues, such as signal loss or connectivity
problems.
o Ensure proper labeling and documentation of all network cabling.
o Perform testing and certification of network cabling.
- Multimedia Equipment Setup and Maintenance:
o Install, configure, and maintain multimedia equipment, including interactive
displays, security cameras, digital signage, and other audiovisual devices.
- Collaboration:
o Work closely with the IT support team to address and resolve hardware,
network, and multimedia-related issues.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
o Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hardware issues in Chromebooks.
Strong understanding of computer hardware components and their functions.
o Ability to use various tools and software for hardware diagnostics and
repair.
o Proficiency in installing and maintaining Ethernet, and fiber optic cables.
o Knowledge of multimedia equipment setup, configuration, and
troubleshooting.
o Operation of microcomputers and related peripheral computer equipment.
o Operation of numerous software applications related to District projects and
activities.
o Installation of computer hardware, peripherals and software.
ABILITY TO:
o Ability to lift and carry Chromebooks, networking equipment, multimedia devices, and
related hardware components.
o Manual dexterity to handle small screws, components, cables, and multimedia
connectors.
o Utilize screwdrivers, spudgers, and a variety of hand tools with a high level of finger
dexterity.
o Utilize power tools, hammer drills and cable termination tools.
o Capacity to work in various positions, including standing, bending, kneeling, and
climbing ladders, for extended periods.
o Perform warehouse duties when necessary, including: moving boxes up to 70 lbs., using
a pallet jack, trash duties, cardboard compactor, recycling scrap parts, cycle counting
inventory.
o Other duties, when necessary, as directed by the District Technology Coordinator or
Computer Operations Manager.
o Near vision—the ability to see details at close range
o Finger dexterity—the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of
one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
o Documentation/Recording—the ability to record and maintain relevant information
o Applied Learning—the ability to apply knowledge, understanding or skill to practical use
on the job
o Interpersonal—the ability to develop and maintain relationships with coworkers
o Ability to maintain a safe work area at all times.
o Install microcomputer hardware and software.
o Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
o Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
o Work independently with little direction.
o Plan and organize work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated
progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law supplemented by course
work in microcomputers and software applications and three years increasingly responsible
microcomputer and software operations and installation experience. The ability to
obtain/maintain an A+ Certification within 1 year of employment.
