Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is a key role within our Engineering department, responsible for the full lifecycle of CNC programming and process development across 2, 3, 4, and 5+ axis turning and milling machines. This role owns its work — from tooling selection and fixture design through prove-out, operator training, and continuous improvement — and is expected to deliver production-ready results with a high degree of accuracy and accountability.
Responsibilities
Develop manufacturing processes including tooling and raw material selection, fixture design, and CNC programming in Fusion 360 and/or Hypermill across 2, 3, 4, and 5+ axis turning and milling machines.
Write CNC programs including advanced techniques such as macro programming, Q variable programming, and in-process probing.
Conduct post-program prove-out for error checking and run time reduction.
Identify root causes of dimensional errors, rework, and inefficiency; lead and implement corrective actions.
Design quality, safety, and dimensional integrity controls into new technical work.
Produce and maintain setup documentation in ProShop ERP including tooling lists, work-holding instructions, program references, and run notes.
Manage multiple concurrent components and projects to meet quality and lead-time requirements.
Troubleshoot geometric errors in multi-axis machinery to resolve dimensional issues.
Train machine operators on developed processes — covering machine operation, tooling use, and the reasoning behind each step.
Mentor CNC programmers and operators; share best practices and support team development.
Support process standardization and departmental improvement efforts.
Support other projects and assignments as needed.
Experience & Skills
The right candidate has spent meaningful time on the shop floor running and programming multi-axis CNC machines — not just observing, but owning setups, solving problems, and producing parts that meet tight tolerances. The combination of education and years of experience matters less than whether you can do the work.
You should be able to come in and:
Read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T callouts and translate them directly into a machining strategy.
Build a CNC program from scratch in Fusion 360, Hypermill, or a comparable CAM platform — and know why you made the toolpath choices you did.
Select tooling, set speeds and feeds, and design a workholding approach appropriate for the part geometry and material.
Prove out your own programs, catch your own errors, and reduce run time without sacrificing quality.
Troubleshoot a dimensional miss — trace it back to root cause and fix it, not just compensate for it.
Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other metrology tools accurately and routinely.
Operate on Haas and/or Heidenhain controllers with confidence; familiarity with controller-level troubleshooting is a plus.
Document a setup clearly enough that an operator can run it without you in the room.
Manage several active jobs at once without losing track of quality or delivery commitments.
Physical Requirements
On-site, machine shop environment. Overtime and occasional non-standard hours may be required.
Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling throughout the facility.
Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; team lifts required for heavier loads.
PPE required on the shop floor at all times (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear).
Manual dexterity and visual acuity required to read technical drawings, GD&T callouts, and operate precision measurement tools.
