The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the **Numu (Northern Paiute)**, **Newe (Western Shoshone)**, and **Washeshu (Washoe)**. These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group’s name means **“The People”** in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. WHAT'S YOUR DAY LIKE?
As a Seasonal Summer Foods Service Program Assistant Cook, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head Cook to ensure the successful operation of the Summer Foods Service Program. Your responsibilities will include preparing, purchasing, storing, and serving nutritious meals to children in accordance with program guidelines. You'll have the opportunity to engage with young individuals, fostering a positive dining experience while adhering to safety and quality standards. This position not only allows you to be involved in meal preparation but also cultivates teamwork and community service, ensuring that every child receives wholesome food during the summer months.

Familiarity with program regulations and record-keeping is crucial, as you will be responsible for monitoring meals and maintaining accurate documentation.
Strong organizational skills will help you manage tasks such as purchasing, receiving, and storing food supplies effectively. A willingness to work closely with youth is vital, as you'll be supervising children during mealtimes, ensuring they have a positive experience. Basic math skills are necessary to assist with inventory and meal planning.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Assists in preparing meals in accordance with planned menu, recipes and meal requirements.
- Assists with serving meals and clean up.
- Assists with supervision of children at mealtimes.
- Accountable for dishwashing.
- Maintains clean and sanitary kitchen, storeroom and dining area.
- Assists in maintaining all equipment in proper working order.
- Assists with program related record keeping and monitoring as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the SFSP CoordinatorHead Cook., Purchases, receives and stores food and supply items used for SFSP.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by either SFSP or Lead Cook.
- Attend preservice and required trainings: Food Handler’s and SFSP Orientation (Date TBA).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Willingness to work with youth.
- Valid Nevada Driver’s license preferred.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Indian preference applies.
- Knowledge of basic sanitation and health procedures.
- Knowledge food preparation techniques.
- Knowledge of program regulation and record keeping.
- Knowledge and experience in quantity cooking.
- Knowledge of Supervisor techniques and supervisory experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to compile records.
