The Heavy Equipment Training Instructor is responsible for providing high quality customer experience to employees and customers by developing and conducting training programs on various Caterpillar applications, systems, and operations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Participates in needs analysis studies to determine training needs by employees, departments, and stores
- Confers with management to gain knowledge of specific work situations requiring employees to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, and technologies
- Formulates teaching outlines and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops
- Selects or develops training aids as well as testing and evaluation procedures to ensure learning and completion of training
- Conducts training sessions covering specified areas regarding on-the-job training, machine technology, machine application, apprenticeship programs, refresher trainings, etc.
- Tests trainees to measure progress and evaluate effectiveness of training
- Reports progress of employees to management
- Revises and/or updates training curriculum to fit current business needs to improve effectiveness
- Provide customers and Riggs employees with product, application, maintenance, and operation training
- Perform other duties as needed within the Training Department
Requirements
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 2 year college degree in business or related field or comparable industry/product experience
- 3-5 years experience with Caterpillar equipment, maintenance, operation, and application
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to design training courses from ground up based on employee and customer needs
- Excellent instruction capabilities – ability to transfer knowledge to others
- Intermediate level Excel and Word knowledge
- Valid Driver’s License
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is routinely lifting up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
Required travel up to 50%. This position requires traveling to branch locations upon occasion to provide on-site instruction.
