Job Summary
Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Student Services Specialist Senior. The Student Services Specialist Senior in the Financial Aid Department performs technically complex financial aid duties, including determining award amounts and posting awards across various programs. This position works under general supervision and is responsible for administering loan and Pell reconciliation, private/PLUS loan awarding, reviewing unusual circumstance requests, managing ISIR suspense reports, and completing needs analysis forms. The specialist also provides information and guides students and parents on advanced financial aid topics such as financial aid methodology, disbursement of aid, cost of attendance, aid eligibility requirements, and financial literacy.
This position requires a physical presence on campus to best serve the students, department, and college.
Essential Functions
50% - Performs more technically complex and difficult student advising and processing. Assists students and parents in person, online/virtually, and via phone. Provides information on Title IV aid, campus based aid and scholarships, including assisting students with navigating the financial aid process from initial application to final award. Responds to complex student and parent inquiries requiring detailed knowledge of financial aid regulations and policies. Handles escalated student complaints and troubleshoots complex issues that require in-depth understanding of Financial Aid processes and technical understanding of Financial Aid systems.
40% - Reviews student financial aid applications and paperwork for accuracy and completeness, and requests additional information in compliance with federal and state laws. Reviews various reports on a regular basis including loan and Pell reconciliation, unusual circumstance requests, private/PLUS loan processing, ISIR suspense, aid adjustments due to enrollment changes, tracking and monitoring of authorization and disbursement of awards, and processes financial needs analysis requests. Coordinates workflow and the implementation of policies and procedures.
5% - May speak with and present to student groups regarding financial aid eligibility and processes as well as other various FAFSA and outreach events, on and off campus. Receives guidance and follows instructions on non-routine tasks and deadlines as assigned.
5% - Assists in testing the accuracy of the annual program setup within the Student Information System (SIS), including auto packaging, repackaging, disbursement dates and student communications. Provides leadership via committee participation and communicates with external stakeholders. May assist in training of staff, and temporary employees. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This classification may be assigned to lead other regular staff.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. One (1) year experience working in a Financial Aid Office.
B. Experience performing the more technically demanding financial aid processing duties (i.e. application review, verification, awarding, and disbursement).
C. Experience with running and processing various reports (i.e. PeopleSoft, Student Information Systems, Financial Management Systems).
D. Knowledge or experience with federal databases such as Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) and the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS).
E. Experience using computer or web-based technology in the delivery of programs and services (i.e. PeopleSoft, Financial Management Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Dynamic Forms, Scholarship Manager or other software used to process financial aid).
F. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.

May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
