$52,500 - $64,000 depending upon years of teaching experience and education
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
This is a 9-month, full-time position.
The HVAC/R Instructor is responsible for providing classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in related courses. The instructor will prepare students for employment in industrial, commercial, and industrial settings while maintaining industry standards, safe work practices, and workforce readiness expectations.
Instructors may be assigned classes at any of the four River Parishes Community College campuses (Gonzales, Reserve, Plaquemine, and St. Charles), as determined by student need and institutional demand. Teaching needs may include face-to-face, hybrid, online, day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
Full-time faculty are expected to actively serve on campus committees, participate in campus activities, engage in student advising and recruitment efforts, and support workforce development initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Technical Diploma and three (3) years of experience in the field of study; OR five (5) years of experience in the HVAC/R field; AND
- Valid Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Universal Certification (EPA Section 608 Certification).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in residential, commercial, and/or industrial HVAC/R systems.
- Previous teaching, training, apprenticeship, or mentoring experience.
- NCCER HVAC Certification, NATE Certification, HVAC Excellence Certification, or other industry-recognized credentials.
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical controls, diagnostics, troubleshooting, installation, and preventive maintenance.
- Experience working with adult learners and postsecondary students.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
FULL-TIME FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following constitutes an employment agreement between the college and faculty members and is contingent upon student enrollment and the authority provided by the Board of Supervisors for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS). Faculty members agree to fulfill the following responsibilities.
I. TEACHING AND DIRECT INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES
- Perform all instructional responsibilities in accordance with the role, scope, and mission of the College.
- Adhere to the designated schedule of classes and office hours.
- Attend and provide meaningful instruction for all class sessions during the semester. Be punctual in class attendance and provide instruction for the complete class period. Make appropriate arrangements for necessary absences according to campus policies.
- Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning and one in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.
- Develop, distribute, and explain to all students within the first week of class, the course outline, the expectations of the course, the standards upon which students will be evaluated, the grading system, the attendance policy, safety policies, classroom management policies, and other information as deemed appropriate for students and the course.
- Ensure that adequate time is devoted to class preparation such that class time is maximized to the benefit of the students and that content is up-to-date and presented in a professional manner.
- Utilize a variety of teaching and assessment methods/instruments, which provide for the differences in learning styles of students while covering the approved curriculum guide.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation instruments in a college-approved grade book format and file records in a timely fashion. (Evaluation instruments are to be maintained for at least three years.)
- Utilize technology as approved/required by the college (i.e. Student Information System, Learning Management System, discipline-specific programs/platforms)
II. SERVICE TO STUDENTS, DEPARTMENT, DIVISION OR COLLEGE, COMMUNITY
- Contribute to the assessment of program student learning outcomes and the implementation of strategies to improve teaching and learning based on analysis of assessment results.
- 1. Participate in the review, development, and revision of discipline-specific curriculum, as needed.
- Serve as a resource for students in the pursuit of employment or advanced educational opportunities related to the teaching discipline. Support the collection of student-specific information related to job placement and/or academic achievement and matriculation, as applicable based on teaching discipline.
- Support the dissemination of information to prospective students and the community related to RPCC programs of study aligned with teaching discipline.
- Support student success through academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, and other student support services, as applicable based on teaching discipline.
- Attend/participate in the RPCC Commencement Ceremony. Attend/participate in graduation/pinning ceremonies, as applicable/assigned.
- Participate in teaching discipline specific program advisory committee meetings, as applicable.
- Demonstrate commitment to effective communication by utilizing official tools for timely dissemination of information to students and supervisors, and by being proactive and responsive in addressing inquiries and needs from students and coworkers.
III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participate in college in-service program(s), professional development opportunities, and college/state meetings, as applicable/assigned.
- In collaboration with the supervisor, develop and follow through on an individualized professional development plan each academic year.
- Complete all academic and occupational credential requirements as defined by LCTCS Board policies and procedures, as well as requirements defined by accrediting agencies.
- Complete all College, system, and state-mandated training in a timely manner.
IV. LEADERSHIP
(As Applicable) Refer to expectations outlined in the approved contract and/or job description related to additional duties assignments, including the following roles: division coordinator, department chair, faculty coordinator, lead faculty member, program director, and other established faculty leadership roles.
V: OTHER:
- Adhere to all RPCC and LCTCS policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties assigned by college/campus administrators, as applicable.
Always represent the College in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image. Note: All faculty are expected to work a 40-hour week. This includes instructional time, class preparation, course improvement, grading, office hours, institutional service assignments and other duties as assigned by appropriate college administration.
DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Develop, revise, and teach Welding Technology courses.
- Deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in SMAW, GMAW (MIG), FCAW, GTAW (TIG), oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and related fabrication processes.
- Maintain a safe and orderly welding laboratory environment.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, consumables, and inventory.
- Prepare students for employment and industry-recognized credentials.
- Incorporate welding symbols, blueprint reading, code requirements, metallurgy, quality control, and workplace safety standards into instruction.
- Collaborate with industry partners and advisory committee members to maintain program relevance.
- Assist with internships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Maintain current knowledge of welding technologies, equipment, and industry practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in classroom, laboratory, and welding shop environments and may require standing for extended periods, lifting equipment and materials, operating welding and cutting equipment, and working in conditions commonly associated with welding and fabrication training facilities.
