Substitute Teacher – Archer City Child Development Center
Location: Archer City, Texas

Position Summary:
Rolling Plains Management Corporation is seeking applicants for the position of Substitute Teacher at the Archer City Child Development Center. This role is responsible to the Center Director and is responsible for assisting teaching staff daily classroom activities and in interacting appropriately with children.
- Maintain your training requirements and records in accordance with TDFPS Minimum Licensing
- Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment, both indoors and outdoors. Complete an outdoor safety checklist.
- Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities in all classroom functions, including assisting children with self care activities, indoor and outdoor learning activities and meal or snack time activities and documented on lesson plans.
- Maintain and open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each child’s family, encourage their involvement in the program, and promote parent-child bonding and nurturing parent-child relationships. Encourage parents to document and submit Parent Ideas for Education and to volunteer.
- Promote feelings of security and trust in children by being warm, supportive and comforting, and by establishing strong and caring relationships with them.
- Provide experiences to allow children to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving, creativity, sense of self and group belonging
- Communicate effectively with parents and community resources.
- Coordinate and interact positively with parent/volunteer assigned to classroom.
- Encourage the involvement of families in the classroom and in all activities of the child to include Literacy RIF activities.
- Coordinate with teaching staff on all classroom activities.
- Ensure TDFPS regulations are followed to maintain license.
- Ensure that children of all races, religions, family backgrounds and cultures are treated with respect and consideration.
- Assist in conducting health checks for children each morning and document on health check form.
- Assist in the décor and set up of the room and activities according to themes.
- Assure confidentiality of all children, families and co-workers.
- Use positive methods of child guidance in accordance with established guidance as established in the Child Guidance plan.
- Assure child-staff ratios are maintained at all times according to Head Start performance Standards.
- Regularly monitor children on playground to assure safe and appropriate play. Monitor play area to assure safety and cleanliness of the equipment. Document daily on outdoor safety checklist. Assure that children are visible at all times and play safely and appropriately.
- Assure that no child is ever left alone or unattended. Children must be supervised at all times. Implement a head count prior to leaving an area and upon returning.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with other team members and management.
- Must be aware of the legal and professional responsibilities with regard to reporting suspected child abuse and neglect by parents, staff members, and others, in accordance with the provisions of Federal, State, or local law.
- Responsible for cleaning and general maintenance of classroom. Responsible for cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, dusting, cleaning restrooms or any other cleaning duties as assigned by the Center Director.
- Show up to work, on time, ready to work scheduled hours.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Teacher assistant or daycare experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other team members and management.
- Must embrace the principle of the parent as the primary educator and support attachment of parent and child.

- Must be flexible and able to adapt to change in the workplace.
- Must be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with the “Drug Free”: Agency Policy
- Must be able to pass regular criminal history checks.
- Must submit to TB tests as required.
- Must possess ability to provide reliable self-transportation capable of regional travel. Must possess and maintain valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required. Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law. MVR background checks may be conducted by the agency.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, drive or ride in sedan, bus or van, and interacting with children at the child’s eye level (which includes floor activities) or other duties assigned.
- The usual requirements in a classroom environment may require lifting boxes of supplies, equipment and occasional adjustments of office furniture.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time.
- May require long periods of standing or walking.
- Occasional bending or squatting required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Possess ability to adapt to inclement weather conditions and/or situations.
- Ability to drive, occasionally long distances.
- Noise level could be moderate to loud in working in center.
- Ability to work in stressful environment and deal effectively with stress.
- Ability to perform duties and adapt to flexible work schedules as established by management.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Normal to heavy travel – ability to travel for activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the service area.
- Must be able to travel by air as needed to attend training, conferences, and related activities.
