General Information
Job Description
The Server Assistant is responsible for providing refined, luxurious service and guest satisfaction according to the standards of the property. The Server Assistant will handle delivering food to guests as well as assisting servers with service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains knowledge of all menu items and specials and general description of all food and beverage items and explains general description to guests. Maintains detailed knowledge of table set up and service, using correct glassware, utensils, settings and garnishes.
Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
Utilizes proper food handling and food service techniques for safe food service.
Assists the server in taking food and beverage orders in a congenial and timely manner and ensures accurate entry and delivery of order.
Maintain basic knowledge of P.O.S. and manual systems.
Exhibits a friendly, helpful and courteous manner when dealing with guests and fellow associates.
Maintain positive guest relations at all times. Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
Works closely with the expeditor to prepare for the food running.
Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards. Meets service standards at all times.
Practices all safety and loss prevention procedures.
Ensures tables are well maintained and hygienic at all times. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned station and service areas.
Remove soiled wares from tables as assigned and transport to dishwashing area.
Sets up and cleans the dining areas while maintaining or exceeding hospitality and service standards.
Meets or exceeds standards of appearance, cleanliness, personal sanitation and hygiene.
Completes side work duties as dictated by management.
Works with various outlets and departments to assist with food delivery and other tasks as needed to support the operation.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous experience working as a food runner, server assistant, or host in a fine dining restaurant or in a luxury hotel environment preferred.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred education.
General Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and group presentation communication skills and command of the English language. Ability to effectively interact with individuals or small groups of people. Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data. Ability to understand guests' service needs; ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to guests within any given period of time; ability to focus attention on details; ability to maintain good coordination and timing while serving orders quickly; ability to exert physical effort in transporting food and beverage guests; ability to endure abundant physical movements throughout the work areas.
Language: Bilingual communications abilities a strong plus.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 40 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicates to guests and co-workers to their understanding.
Licenses & Certifications: California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certificate & California Food Handler Card, preferred.
