Opportunity at a Glance
Lead Certified Veterinary Technician for the Ross University Veterinary Clinic area of Clinical Sciences Department
Duties will be assigned by the Division Head and Technician Director in consultation with the Head of Department. There would be an expectation to maintain licensure and AAHA and AVMA accreditation requirements.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join a large team which consists of Certified/ Licensed/ Registered veterinary technicians/nurses, veterinary assistants, and faculty. The candidate will manage Certified/ Licensed/ Registered veterinary technicians/nurses, veterinary assistants, support staff and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the RUVC high standards of patient care, customer service and student experience, treatment room floor, labs, and offices for which they have responsibility. The role typically includes clinical duties, teaching responsibilities and ensuring a positive student experience, animal care, on call duties and administration but can vary depending on the needs of the RUVC.
Management of the team will include maintaining AAHA accreditation standards, addressing training needs of the team, ensuring appropriate continuing education opportunities are identified and maintained, identifying career development opportunities, and managing annual performance reviews. It also includes organizing work and vacation scheduling, managing time clock, and keeping track of compensatory time.
There will be an expectation to ensure general maintenance and repair of the work area of responsibility. Another important responsibility will be working closely with Health and Safety team to ensure compliance with all regulations.
It is expected that managerial duties will be undertaken alongside any clinical, teaching, animal care and on call duties.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- 60% - RUVC clinical CVT position duties.
- 25% - Team management and development, semester & break schedule management, team replicon/time off management, team support and engagement, and stakeholder collaboration, regular check-ins with Hospital Director.
- 15% - Provide feedback and information for budget management, purchasing, inventory support and responsible for special orders.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Willingness to relocate to the Caribbean island of St Kitts for the duration of employment.
Education
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field required.
Licensure and Certification
Current Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician/Nurse credential required.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician/Nurse or equivalent required.
Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory, team lead, or leadership experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience using learning management and assessment platforms such as Canvas and ExamSoft.
Experience with veterinary practice management software, preferably ProVet Cloud.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
