Under the supervision of Department Supervisor or Manager, perform custodial, housekeeping, grounds work and general maintenance and repair of building(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform general cleaning, sanitizing, and custodial duties in the common areas of the building(s) such as vacuuming and cleaning floors, wiping and dusting surfaces, washing windows, and picking up and emptying trash containers.
- Clean, disinfect, and sanitize restrooms and break rooms.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
- Perform limited grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming lawns and hedges and cleaning snow from sidewalks. Maintain parking lots and sidewalks by keeping them clear of obstacles and debris.
- Perform general repairs such as repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures. May perform carpentry work.
- Ensure cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
- Ensure heating and cooling systems are operational.
- Notify management concerning major repairs needed. Submit SCIT maintenance requests and track completion of requests.
- Maintain the care and use of supplies and equipment.
- Abide by all safety regulations.
- Attend all trainings/meetings related to the position as required by management.
- Department specific duties and responsibilities will be discussed and assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- One year experience with basic maintenance and grounds keeping.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver’s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of use of maintenance tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
- Skill in the safe operation of tools and shop equipment.
- Skill in diagnosing and repair of equipment utilized.
- Ability to safely operate and use various maintenance equipment such as mowers, pruners, trimmers, and power washers.
- Ability to operate hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment in a safe manner.
- Ability to comprehend and consistently follow verbal and written directions regarding policies, procedures and the use of supplies and equipment.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and meeting strict time lines.
- Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
Physical Demands:
- Strenuous physical exertion in climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects.
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with repair equipment.
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
- Occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor environment.
- Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials
- Work may be performed in wet and cramped or close work area.
