POSITION SUMMARY
As a Medication Technician, you will coordinate and oversee all aspects of medication-related care for residents, including procurement, administration, documentation, and regulatory compliance. You will maintain the medication room, ensure accurate medication records, support resident wellness, and collaborate with physicians, pharmacies, and the care team to promote safe and effective medication management. As a member of the Health & Wellness team, you will provide general support to resident care operations.
- Maintain resident charts and ensure documentation remains current, including community forms, licensing documentation, physician orders, and incident reports.
- Communicate resident status changes to the LVN Supervisor, Director of Health & Wellness, and/or Administrator.
- Ensure all medication-related documentation is accurate and current, including medication administration records (MARs), physician orders, telephone orders, and medication change orders.
- Oversee and coordinate the community absence medication program.
- Ensure the medication room remains fully stocked with all prescribed medications, including routine, PRN, over-the-counter (OTC), and specialty medications.
- Assist in coordination with contracted pharmacies, including medication deliveries, audits, staff education, and medication destruction procedures.
- Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers as needed regarding resident medication needs.
- Monitor psychotropic medication usage to ensure consistency with physician orders and report concerns related to resident behaviors or medication effectiveness.
- Maintain control of medication room access and key assignments.
- Pour, pass, and assist with medication administration in accordance with DSS regulations and community policies.
- Assist in coordinating physician appointments and other healthcare-related appointments.
- Review and communicate relevant documentation between caregiver shifts to ensure continuity of care.
- Support the Health & Wellness team with resident care coordination and operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Pay Rate: $27.25 per hour
- Hours: Part-Time, 24 hours/week
- Shift Schedule: NOC Shift; 11 PM - 7:30 AM
- Days Off: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Working Days: Sunday, Friday, Saturday
- Successful completion of a Medication Technician training program preferred.
- CPR certification preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience in long-term care, home care, assisted living, or a related healthcare setting.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Effective communication skills and ability to perform basic arithmetic.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or willingness to learn within ninety (90) days of employment.
- Ability to accurately document resident care and medication-related activities.
- Ability to provide schedule coverage and work overtime when necessary.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting.
- May be exposed to blood and bodily fluids that may contain infectious diseases.
- Ability to transport residents via wheelchair, Geri chair, or shower chair, pushing up to 150 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to transfer, lift, turn, and position residents weighing up to 125 pounds unassisted, or with assistance for residents weighing more than 125 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, stand, and walk for up to 90% of the workday.
- May be exposed to offensive odors and combative behavior.
- Ability to reach up to six feet and push a dietary cart weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
