A top commercial construction firm is seeking an experienced Superintendent II to oversee field operations and manage daily construction activities on commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, supervising field personnel, maintaining project quality and safety standards, and ensuring work is completed on schedule and within budget.
The Superintendent II serves as a key leader on the jobsite, partnering closely with Project Managers, clients, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors to successfully deliver projects while mentoring and developing junior field staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple subcontractors and construction phases simultaneously to maintain project schedules and productivity.
- On smaller projects, oversee all field operations from Notice to Proceed through project closeout, including warranty activities.
- Manage assigned construction phases and coordinate all associated subcontractors.
- Mentor and develop Superintendent I team members and Assistant Superintendents to support career growth and leadership development.
- Perform Superintendent I responsibilities when one is not assigned to the project.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.
- Partner with the field team to ensure efficient installation and coordination of all construction activities.
- Assist in leading subcontractor coordination and progress meetings while documenting meeting minutes in Procore.
- Participate in monthly project review meetings and provide updates on field progress.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to all onsite field personnel.
- Coordinate subcontractor scopes of work to identify and resolve drawing conflicts, scheduling issues, and constructability challenges.
- Monitor subcontractor performance related to scheduling, quality, safety, productivity, and contract compliance.
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings throughout the duration of the project.
- Coordinate and expedite exterior mock-up construction, including exterior finishes, roofing, windows, flashing, air barriers, trim, and waterproofing details for architect and owner review.
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe project sites, including field offices and trailers.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, design professionals, subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- Receive and document material deliveries while maintaining accurate material control logs.
- Communicate professionally and ethically with all project participants.
- Attend required company meetings, safety training, leadership development programs, and continuing education opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial construction, including field supervision.
- Strong understanding of construction estimating, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, contract administration, field operations, and financial reporting.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documentation.
- Experience with subcontractor procurement, bid review, scope development, contract negotiations, and subcontract administration.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage baseline project schedules using construction sequencing and critical path methodology.
- Working knowledge of AIA contract documents and Cost Plus Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contracts.
- Proven leadership experience with coaching, mentoring, and developing construction professionals.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Procore, Phoenix, and other construction management software platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment while managing multiple priorities.
