Position Summary Description
Performs Operational Planning Analyses and develops Operating Plans for reliable and optimal utilization of Seminole’s transmission and generation resources in the Operations Planning horizon (next day +12 months) while maintaining compliance with NERC, FRCC and FERC standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution is required. Minimum of six (6) years of experience in the electric utility industry with relevant System Operations and Operations Planning experience with transmission and generation. Two (2) years of similar experience may be substituted for each one(1) year of education. A master’s degree or registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) will equate to one (1) year of experience. Must obtain NERC System Operator Certification at the level of Balancing, Interchange, and Transmission Operator (BIT) or higher within six (6) months of employment. Experienced candidates may be considered for the Engineer III-, Senior Engineer-, and/or Principal Engineer-level dependent upon years of relevant experience.

Essential Functions
- Ensures planned resource outages are up to date and published internally and externally
- Produces detailed, coordinated and optimized load and resources plans through coordination with all functional groups including System Operations, Power Production and Commercial Operations
- Leads daily coordination calls with personnel from all operational teams within the company regarding system status, dispatch plan(s), outage schedules and other short-term reliability information.
- Assists junior staff in the modeling of Seminole generation resource fleet for purposes of short-term planning
- Develops mitigation plans for issues impacting Seminole’s transmission facilities and/or resource dispatch
- Performs post analysis studies to measure resource optimization and publishes routine reports
- Performs economic and feasibility studies to evaluate impacts of market power, fuel supply and transmission availability
- Analyzes and reports upon the costs associated with resource outages
- Performs the function of Subject Matter Expert (SME) as it relates to assigned NERC Reliability Standards.
- Reviews operating practices, procedures and instructions to ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards
- Provides engineering support in development of representative resource assumptions used in unit commitment and economic dispatch applications
- Develops and maintains tools, templates and reports used in Operations Planning and in support of real time operations
- Represents Seminole on various FRCC/SERC working groups to perform regional and sub‑regional operational transmission and resource adequacy assessments
- Maintains and troubleshoots Seminole’s Real-Time Contingency Analysis program
- Conducts power flow analysis as required
- Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
- NERC Compliance: Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
Working Conditions
Some travel and work outside of normal business hours may be required. Position requires rotating on call duty after hours (evenings and weekends). Position may require visits to our plant facilities. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment.
