The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. HHSA is organized into four branches: Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. HHSA promotes optimal health for all. The frail, the abused, the mentally ill, and those without resources look to HHSA for services and resources to meet their basic needs, and to protect their health and safety.
The Behavioral Health & Social Services Branch is dedicated to improving the well-being of our community through comprehensive mental health services and essential social services to adults, children, and families. By integrating both behavioral health and social support services, we strive to build a healthier community by ensuring individuals have the resources they need to achieve stability and wholeness.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Under general supervision, to assist nurses and doctors in providing responsible patient care; to administer prescribed routine medications and treatments to patients; and to perform related work as required.
This Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) extra help position is responsible for conducting drug testing of adult, and at times, minor clients at the Breslauer Public Health Clinic. This includes but is not limited to collection of urine specimens, safe storage and shipping of specimens, and data entry regarding specimens. This position requires a set schedule and will primarily be located at 2650 Breslauer Way Redding, CA 96001.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The primary duties of this extra help Licensed Vocational Nurse position are conducting drug testing of child welfare clients.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Administers medicines, treatments, and special diets as prescribed; assists doctors with treatment and dressings; prepares patients for examination, treatment, or surgery; observes patient and records symptoms; bathes, feeds, and takes care of patient's personal needs; observes progress of cases and results of medical and nursing treatments; reports unusual occurrences and conditions of patients to supervisors; prepares dressings; provides general bedside care for patients; instructs patients and their relatives concerning home care; works with others as part of the treatment team to provide an overall treatment program for the patients; applies mental hygiene principles in all relationships with patients; motivates patients to develop self-reliance in daily living; receives visitors and encourages their interest in the patient's welfare; assists in the supervision and instruction of subordinate personnel; attends meetings; assists Public Health Nurses with annual flu immunization as well as in hypertensive screening by offering counseling in anti-hypertensive measures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Vocational nursing methods, techniques, terminology, and procedures; medical terminology; patient hygiene and bedside care; isolation techniques and sterile and aseptic techniques for certain positions; care of nursing equipment and supplies; mental health or public health care procedures.
Ability to: Communicate effectively with sick or disturbed patients; administer routine treatments and medicines; keep accurate records and charts; establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work; understand and carry out oral and written directions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid license as a Vocational Nurse issued by the California State Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners.
Some positions in this classification may require possession of a valid California driver's license. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County. Eligibility for employment for those who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the appointing authority.
