CDL Transportation Driver

JOB SUMMARY:
The CDL Transportation driver will be responsible for loading, unloading and delivering material handling equipment and/or products (pallet racking, shelving, carts, batteries, chargers, etc.) in local areas of the branch. Will be responsible for securing the equipment/products with chains, tie-downs and straps and drive in a safe and timely manner. This position allows you to be home each evening. This opportunity represents Shoppa's Material Handling and requires professionalism, great attitude, good communication skills and outstanding customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform daily Pre/Post trip inspection on vehicle(s) before driving to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, and damage to the vehicle.
- Maintain DOT driving logs including working hours and vehicle/repair status.
- Follow all State and Federal guidelines.
- Safely maneuver trucks and trailers into loading or unloading positions, following signals from the loading crew.
- Verify vehicle position is correct and that any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
- Safely load and unload all equipment and products including but not limited to; forklifts, sweepers, pallet racking, shelving, conveyors, carts, chargers, batteries, etc.
- Secure load with straps, chains, tie-downs, etc. for safe transfer.
- Obtain required signatures for all loads picked-up and delivered.
- Verify amount of equipment/material with the driver/customer/manufacturer before departing from the location.
- Professionally and effectively communicate and interface with the customer.
- Report all issues (delivery, equipment/material, or customer) that arises to your manager.
- Work independently as well as in a team.
- Assist in the Saginaw yard when not delivering to customers.
- Represent Shoppa’s with a courteous professional manner.
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of CDL driving with experience using chains, tie-downs, and straps to secure the equipment.
- Experience driving an automatic or standard KW 10-speed tractor with a 48' dovetail drop deck trailer (hydraulic slide/tilt)
- Current valid CDL
- Clean driving record
- Certified forklift operator
- Truck/trailer-mounted forklift experience

The physical demands and working conditions requirement indicated below are examples of the demands that must be performed in carrying out the essential job functions.
Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, and walking (up to continuously); frequent use of computer and telephone requiring repetitive finger, hand, and arm movement; occasionally carry office supplies and other miscellaneous items up to 50 pounds. Continuous use of seeing, hearing, verbal communication.
Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
