Position Summary
The Health Unit Coordinator provides non-clinical support for the patient care area under the guidance and direction of the nursing staff. This position will be dual rolled and cross trained to cover as a Telemetry Technician.
- Provides care to patients in an organized and systematic manner according to institutional policy in keeping with patient safety principles
- Performs all clerical functions. Exhibits good organizational, time management and teamwork skills, which contribute to the management and efficient operation of the unit
- Serves as the main focus for communication in the nursing station regarding all unit patient care activities to ensure efficient coordination of the unit activities
- Demonstrates the ability and competency to respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations
- Answers the telephone, name & department, directs all calls appropriately, takes an accurate message and delivers to the appropriate individual
- Communicates any problems, concerns or issues promptly to the nurse
- Performs routine duties for electronic monitoring of patients
- Monitors central station monitors.
- Initiates and discontinues telemetry on the central station monitors
- Notifies unit for faulty leads and battery function
- Interprets the monitored rhythm
- Seeks consultation if unsure of rhythm interpretation
- Responds to all telemetry alarms by checking the monitor, securing the strip, and notifying the RN on unit of occurrence
Minimum Requirements
- BLS Certification through the American Heart Association
- Office/Clerical experience in a medical setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology, as well as good computer proficiency, with excellent customer service and communication skills
- Must be able to walk, stand and sit for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull
Salary Range - $17.50 - $24.76 hourly (Based on experience)
